Fabric Roses and a sweet frame

I had this beautiful pink flannel out for another project that I’ve been working on this week and just couldn’t put it away without making at least one more. I’ve had this fabric in my stash for…sigh…sixteen years now. I had bought it to make a beautiful soft baby dress for my daughter. Obviously that never happened. BUT! I have redeemed myself by finally getting around to using it! I’m so glad that this classic color and print never seem to go out of style!

So…a couple weeks ago I was experimenting with some ribbon roses and came across them. Hmmmm…why couldn’t I try that with fabric? And thus my pink flannel rose was born. To make the rose, I ripped a length of flannel to about a three ink width. This gives the nice ravelled edge to my rose. After folding it in half to make a long thin strip, I used large stitches on my sewing machine to stitch 1/4″ from the folded edge. Using a long stitch allows you to pull one of the threads and gather the fabric into ruffles. Use a need and thread to tack together into a rose shape.

Baby Girl Frame

{Project removed for publication}

Because my rose is rather bulky, I thought it would work best on an altered frame. I kept the stamping nice and clean and simple. The Daisy Chain Scrapblock stamped with white craft ink onto Kraft cardstock makes a nice subtle background for the rose. Inside, I stamped the sweet little lamb and sentiment. What do you think? A darling gift?

Quick Tip: To tear fabric, snip the selvage edge with a pair of scissors, then pull quickly to tear. Don’t worry, you won’t hurt the fabric. Sewers do this all the time to make sure they are “on grain:.

YIkes! I’m having one of those days! I almost forget to tell you that this project is for today’s Ways to  Use It Challenge, Fabric. I hope you’ll dig some up and play along. Check it out here!

 Have a sweet day!

A little wild!

Have you noticed all the animal print patterns that are huge in the fashion and scrapbooking industries right now? It’s WILD out there! LOL I just had to order the CHF Leopard Print Backgrounder to play around with this fun look. My color combo is a little “wild” too. I used pink paint dabbered onto my backgrounder to stamp this fun look.

 You Drive Me Wild

jks-you-drive-me-wild.jpg

I just couldn’t resist pairing up this leopard print stamp with this sentiment and this 1957 Bel Air. It’s fun and funky!

jks-you-drive-close.jpg

Quick Tip: I had a lot of different elements to pull together on this design. I used a circle cut from a Clear Card Sheet to anchor all the elements but still allow  a peek at the stamped background.

Thanks for stopping by !

Blooming again!

My work desk is blooming again with the latest Shady Tree Studio release. Nancy has designed three more gorgeous floral images. I just adore poppies and two of the three releases are poppy images. Here’s a design I created while using up bits and pieces of goodies on my desk. While it uses different products from yesterday’s design.. it actually uses the same red, black and soft blue color combo. Just goes to show you what a totally different look you can get while still using the same colors.

Poppies

jks-poppies.jpg

For this design, I actually took the photo once my natural light was gone…something I really don’t like to do. While it’s not how I usually photograph, I found that taking the photo on my kitchen table with the indirect flourescent valance lights on actually works in a pinch.

Quick Tip: Black or brown chipboard is  fabulous and quick to use. You can alter it if you wish but it looks fabulous plain as well!

Have a beautiful day!

Ahoy there!

jks-ahoy-slice.jpg

Ahoy there! No…unfortunately I’m not off on a cruise. I’m just like this little pirate, pretending I’m set for warmer seas and an adventure. Saturday evening hubby and I headed off for Home Depot to buy a tropical plant for the kitchen. My kitchen is almost done but I’m still recovering from all the renovation expenses so this is going to be the extent of my decorating for now. Filling in the “hole” in the corner. While we were at the checkout someone mentioned it (being the plant) looked like Florida. I responded by saying it was as close as I was going to get. 😉 Truly…for all the griping you must think I do here about winter, I really don’t mind it that much.

Ahoy

jks-ahoy.jpg

This little pirate was so much fun to color. I airbrushed the background to create the sky. Don’t worry if the airbrushing is not even, it looks more natural that way. I created my own little “x marks the spot” embellishment by pulling out a chipboard x, covering it with black ink and tying it with a little cord. I paired it up with one of my favorite Cosmo Cricket papers, the Little Boy paper pack.

Happy Monday!

One Last Dance

 sweet-ballerina-slice.jpg

It’s the last dance for this sweet ballerina. I hope you don’t mind seeing her two days in a row. In my mind though, I saved the best for last. 🙂 I love this sweet image done in a soft, shabby style. Isn’t she gorgeous done in soft chalks?

In case you missed yesterday’s post… CHF is retiring the Sandra Kuck line of stamps. Today, Sunday, is your last day to order. If you’re wondering about some of the other images you can find them here or scroll down to see some designs from this line in the previous post. This ballerina is so sweet that I’ll miss it, not to mention The Prayer which is one of my absolute favorite images.

Sweet Ballerina

As you know, I love my embellishments and this card design is no exception.  This sweet flourish is covered with Tattered Rose Distress Crackle paint and while wet, sprinkled with clear glitter. It’s beautiful!

Take care and have a wonderful day!

Ballerina

jks-ballerina-slice.jpg

I love sweet images of children. There is something timeless about them. Of course it may also have something to do with the fact that I love children. From the time I was small, I always wanted a large family. That wish certainly came true! 🙂

This Sandra Kuck Ballerina image is adorable and believe it or not, really easy to color. The  beautiful shading in the image does most of the work. I decided to see how she would look in purple and blue for this project and I love the sweet look. After all, not every little girl likes pink. As I’m not sure exactly to whom this design is going, I decided to keep it clean and simple.

Now I have to tell you some sad news about the Sandra Kuck line. Cornish Heritage Farms is retiring this line and today and tomorrow are the last two days to purchase any Sandra Kuck Stamps. If you’ve got one on your wish list and have been putting it off…this is the last chance. I’ve included a few clips of other designs at the end of this post just in case you want to see these beautiful images. My absolute favorite is called The Prayer.

simply saturday, simply love

It’s almost Valentine’s Day and love is in the air. A few snow flurries too! Something I like to do to relax and also use up some scraps is to make easy, scrappy cards. I hate throwing out scraps of what I’ve been designing with and I also love re-purposing product for another event. It just occurred to me that none of the product I used was actually specifically Valentine’s Day product. The heart pin is part of a spring/baby colored theme of pins and the loved chipboard piece, a “family” themed  5th Avenue collection from Making Memories.

 luv.

jks-luv2.jpg

This big pink luscious Prima flower has been sitting around forever! lol I love to hoard beautiful things. Enough is enough though and I finally put it to good use! I thought it would give the card a fun look to spell the sentiment luv, instead of love. It also saved some of my more “precious” vowels for another project.

u r loved

jks-ur-loved.jpg

Want a glimpse into some paper I’ve been designing with lately…just check out this card. I couldn’t bring myself to through out these so pretty scraps, even though they are pretty tiny. The easiest way to do this is glue all your strips onto a thin sheet of paper, then cut to size. As you can see, I’m loving these Making Memories’ chipboard letters!

Supply List: cardstock by Prism Papers, patterned paper, chipboard and letters by Making Memories, pin by Fancy Pants Designs, felt by Queen and Co., punch by Fiskars

Quick Tip: Think of fun ways to use products. Just because we might be a little more thrifty right now does not mean we can’t have fun. Stretch your creativity and you’ll be glad you did!

Just to enable you a little…Lindsey is having a storewide 30% off sale at Jacksonbelle Embellishments until midnight Tuesday. Promo code: Feb30
