Poppies…

jks-elegant-poppies-slice.jpg

Poppies are one of those flowers you just have to love. Rich, vibrant and full of life but tough and resilient as well. I decided to have fun with this new image by giving it an eye-poppin combo of red, black and aqua. I’m not usually a “red” girl but this time of year…I had fun heating things up a little! We’ve been going through an extremely cold snap here right now. Brrrrrr! This design was cut out with a Labels 2 Spellbinders die and then colored and airbrushed with my Copic Markers. For a fun way to add black accents to my poppy centers, I adhered some black buttons to them.

Quick Tip: When stamping your Scrapblock™ background, center your layer evenly on each side, especially when you have a balanced pattern. An easy way I do this is to ink the Scrapblock™ face-up on the table and then carefully lay my layer on top. I press firmly with my hands to get an even impression.

Have a fabulous Sunday!

Simply Saturday… a simple tin

Yay! It’s Saturday! I have no idea what we’re doing here today but I’m hoping for a little down-time and to get a few errands done. I realized the other day that I had forgotten to share this simple little tin I made just before Christmas. I made it to go with the Secret Santa present one of my children had to bring in and filled it with candy. It’s so simple you can whip one of these up in no time. I like that.

Sweet Tin

jks-sweet-tin.jpg

While most of this design is simply wrapped with patterned paper and trim, I did manage to stamp a little to embellish my chipboard flower. That’s my Distressed Grid Scrapblock™ again. Hope you’re not tired of seeing it!

Quick Tip: Sticky Strip adhesive works great for adhering fancy trim around tins.

Have a simply wonderful day!

Some more vintage…

jks-vintage-couple-slice.jpg

I’ve been such a stampin fool this week that I hardly know what to share next! LOL I rarely have this “problem”! I ended up deciding to share another vintage style design with you today. Casual Conversation is another Saturday Evening Post image released this month.I’ve actually designed is an elegant, more manly style of a valentine. Doesn’t this couple look like they are flirting to you?

Vintage Couple

This image is colored in with Prismacolor Pencils and Gamsol Mineral Spirits. For a fun peek at the inside of the card, I trimmed off about 1.5″ from the right hand edge. This is such a quick and easy variation on your very basic card fold.

Quick Tip: Colored pencils…or pencil crayons as we call them here in Canada, are perfect for coloring in finely detailed images.

Have a sweet day!

Color Your World

Now “color your world” may seem like a strange title for a Ways to Use it Challenge. Yes I am aware that the SCS color challenge is on Tuesdays and it already has another hostess! 😉 But unlike the color challenge where you are challenged to use a certain combo, today I’d like to challenge you to find ways to use on-line color generators. What’s that you say? Well if you are ever looking for inspiration for a color combo…there are a lot of fabulous resources out there. If you’ve been doing these challenges for a while, you’ll know that this is a rerun challenge…one we have done before. Recently I came across a site I had never heard of before and found it really inspiring. Here’s a link to the Kuler site I love. If you’d like to play along with this fun color combo challenge…check it out here. We’d love to have you play along!

Below is a  color combo that I loved and wanted to try out called snow berries. Now if you look at my design below, I have to admit the colors are a little off. First…it’s not always possible to find the exact match in cardstock and secondly….I hate my printer! It does not print out the colors that are on my screen and so when I went to color match, what looks like rust on the screen looked more red and that dark thyme color??? It totally looked like brown. What’s with that? Oh well…I had fun with the challenge and while it was a challenge trying to use all five colors of cardstock…I did end up with something different and out of the box for me that I actually like. Isn’t that what a challenge is all about?

 A Friend Loves

jks-a-friend-loves-2.jpg

This is one of those card designs where I just enjoyed the journey. I had no idea where I was going when I started. I had originally wanted to add in a stamped image but it just didn’t fit so I settled on a stamped background and sentiment and a cleaner look.

Quick Tip: To add some cohesion to all those stripes of cardstock…I stitched them together and repeated a green in the lace as well as my background color in the middle of the stripes.

Here’s a little color in my world at the moment. One of my favorite orchids is finally blooming!

Seriously Vintage

OK. I’ve just found my new favorite stamp! I can’t put it down! I’ve created three designs with Tulip Girl in the past 12 hours and it is so seriously sweet I’m hooked. I have one of them to share with you today… a sketch challenge design that I just had to play along with this morning. My Prima Marketing paper was perfect inspiration for a color scheme and to get a soft vintage look.

Here’s a better peek at the coloring…

Quick Tip: When coloring with Copic markers…color your areas in one or two shades and blend well. Go back in after you have completed the image and add any extra color you need to create more shadow and dimension.

Another block…

 jks-restful-slice.jpg

Each month one of the stamp releases I look forward to most is the latest Scrapblock™. These large 6×6 inch square stamps of red rubber goodness are so versatile that I know I’ll come back to them time and time again. It’s amazing how many looks, how many techniques and uses I can find for each one. Today’s release is called Paisley Pattern and for this card design, I decided to go for a very soft, subtle look to pair up with my sentiment. To do this, I inked up my Scrapblock™ with two colors of Versamagic Chalk ink and then stamped onto Kraft cardstock. I love the subtle changes in color and it gives a beautiful matte look that makes it look like custom patterned paper.

Restful Paisley

jks-restful-paisley.jpg

To create the scallops of the bottom of the design, I removed the corner guard from my small EK Success Corner Rounder and repeatedly punch my edge. In each scallop, I punched a little hole with a tiny circle punch to resemble an eyelet border. To tie the color combo together in my design, I swiped the edges of painted chipboard (Lettuce Adirondack Paint Dabber) with the Aquatic Splash Chalk ink.

Quick Tip: Chalk inks are great for stamping on darker cardstock. Unlike dye inks the pigment sits on top of the paper and they dry much quicker than traditional pigment inks.

Have a super fabulous day! Oh! And don’t forget to stop by the CHF Creative Blog today for another chance to win some new stamps!
