Ombre is a beautiful tone on tone color trend. You can create it in so many different ways. With inks, mists, paint, etc. it’s all about the saturation of color.

Today I’ve tried out an ombre idea I’ve had tucked away in the back of my mind for awhile. There’s nothing like a good challenge to get ideas out of your head and onto a project.

Cath @ Moxie Fab World is currently hosting a week of great challenges inspired by the latest Card Creations special issue. If you’re looking for some creative inspiration, be sure to check it out as the challenges are all based on some of the best and latest trends.

Of course this card is for the ombre challenge and I’ve created an ombre textural embellishment with the simplest of materials…graduated cardstock. Bazzill makes the most gorgeous heavy cardstock that is specifically designed for cardmaking. It stands up to pretty much any technique or heavy embellishment you throw at it.

Colors used here are Robin’s Egg, Candy Necklace & Jawbreaker. Robin’s Egg is the top one and is my absolute favorite hue. Each of the cardstock layers was cut with a set of Fringe Scissors. You can cut them by hand but I love how perfect these scissors make the cuts and how quickly they trim up.

Final Notes:

• sentiment is a rub-on from an old Melissa Frances? rub-on sheet
• misting the flower gives gives it a very subtle ombre effect as well

Time for a blog hop!

I’m so excited about this blog hop as I was so excited to work on this special issue from Paper Crafts Magazine. 75 Creative Card Challenges is one of those issues you are definitely not going to want to miss. It was a joy to work on and so inspiring. Looking through it’s fabulous designs and challenges, I’m inspired all over again. Seriously. The ideas are amazing!

For today’s blog hop, a few of the designers have been asked to create a card for a new challenge. The challenge was to use song lyrics and I’ve  used the Shine Bright song title as my sentiment and also incorporated lots of shiny and “diamond” accents.

It was fun to go through my stash of things I’d been hoarding and put them all together into one glitzy design. Giving a nod to the idea of using lyrics is also using a sheet music motif in the Tissue Tape and also in the patterned paper used.

I’ve been telling myself over and over that I need to find the time to have some more creative fun. For me, challenges are a great way to do that. Moxie Fab World is always a great place to be inspired and challenged so I headed over for peek between my morning coffee and throwing in the laundry and getting down to my growing to do list. Why not procrastinate a little longer, right? I’m glad I did as I’m much more inspired to get on with my day.

This is my interpretation of the MFW trigger. The warmth of the wood and velvet mixed with the beautiful brown, cream and rich red color scheme drew me in.

This would actually have worked well for a holiday card but I thought I’d go with more of a subtle love theme.

It’s Thursday and I’m excited to be back with another case study inspiration piece for you. If you missed my post last week, I’m honoured to be the October Muse for the CASE Study ChallengeBlog. This week there is a new inspiration card for you and I’m playing along with the CASE Study designers with a new spin on it. To see the inspiration design and all the great twists on it, be sure to stop by their blog here.

Last week my card design was an interesting departure from the original but this week I decided to stay a little truer to the inspiration piece. Instead of using layers of tape measure trim, I’ve folded little strips of patterned paper in half and then adhered them for a fringe-like effect.

A cluster of goodies is always my favorite way to embellish a design. These lovely Cosmo Cricket Brads come pre-printed with lovely words to create a sentiment.

The new Lily Bee Persnickety line is one of my recent favorites. Such sweet colors and prints. If you’d like to recreate this card with the folded fringe layers, I cut a couple 3/4″ strips from the 6×6 papers and then cut them into 3 inch lengths. Fold the cut strips into half and adhere starting from the bottom layer and working up. The finished card base will be 5.5 x 3.75″ in size for a perfect fit.
