pretty presentation

I think I just may be addicted to making gift bags now. They are super fun to create and you can design them just like a card, only a little bit larger. Of course if you have a teeny tiny bag, it just may be smaller. I’ve used a couple beautiful Zva Creative accents on this bag… a beautiful pearl flourish and some crystal letters to personalize my gift bag. Who says you can’t combine pearls and rhinestones?

For this fun bag I’ve created a panel about 5×8″ and then adhered it on the front.  I’ve paired up my beautiful bling with some sweet Thrift Shop papers from the 8×8 paper pad by October Afternoon.

Here’s a detail of the Zva Double Flourish pearls (ZCPE03CA110) and a fun flower made with the Tim Holtz Tattered Florals Die by Sizzix.

And here’s those crystal letters from the Zva Crystal Clear Alpha Page (ZCCRB02BC111).

Quick Tip: for super sized doilies, check out your cake  supply store. Wilton makes gorgeous doilies that are perfect for larger projects.

Thinking of you

I created this card for a friend going through some difficult  days. It’s sad that we have times like this in our lives, but we do and so we need thinking of you cards to share our thoughts and prayers. Life isn’t always pretty but just knowing someone cares can help.

A little shabby chic today with Girls’ Paperie scraps. I just cannot throw out a single bit.

To go along with the soft and shabby look of the card, I painted this metal bird from the Tim Holtz Adornments Package with Studio Line Gesso. I figured the gesso would hold on the metal better than straight acrylic paint and was pleased with how well it worked. After  the gesso dried I sanded off some of the gesso with a Sanding Block to reveal some of the metal for a subtle look.

Supplies: cardstock by Bazzill, Girls’ Paperie Patterned paper, sewing machine, glitter chipboard by Melissa Frances, button by Jenni Bowlin, twine, flower by Prima, Gesso, metal charm – Adornments by Advantus, Brushed Corduroy Distress Ink by Ranger, rub-on by American Crafts

Canvas and Paint

Sticky Back Canvas a fun product that I’m getting seriously addicted to. This week I had a little stamping fun with it and used some paints to for a more artistic looking style. This card uses beautiful Hero Arts stamps and Hero Arts is sponsoring the Card Patterns Sketch 67 this week. Isn’t it another great sketch? I love sketch challenges as they get me thinking outside my box. This week play along for a chance to win a Hero Arts stamp set or a chance to be our next Guest Designer.

Just Saying Hello

Creating this card was a bit of an experiment for me. It didn’t quite do what I’d expected but I think the results are pretty anyway.

To create this panel, I stamped the Hero Arts butterfly stamp over the piece of canvas. I wanted to try glittering up the butterflies with stickles and thought the dried Stickles would make a fun resist for the paint. I applies some pink Stickles to the butterflies and allowed them to dry. I then painted over the top with some Claudine Hellmuth Studio Paints in Blank Canvas, Dab of  Yellow and Dash of Red. The colors were very lightly mixed together to get a mottled background effect. I then wiped the paint off the butterflies. The liquid in the Stickles resisted the paint well but the glitter moved from the butterflies and I ended up with glitter over the entire surface. Not quite the look I was going for but it ended up being really pretty and sparkly over the entire canvas.

Quick Tip: Jet Black Archival Ink by Ranger works fabulously on the Sticky Back Canvas. Heat set for extra staying power.

Have a beautiful Sunday!

o boy

I’m so excited to get back to the lake today. There is nothing more relaxing for me and I love the sound of the water. I’m hoping the weather will hold out for lots of fun today.

On the beach, I almost always have my camera within reach. I love capturing the moment and scrapbooking the kids having fun. Some photos I took last year finally worked themselves into my album when I was having fun with this month’s Up the Street Scrapbooking Kit for June. Here I’ve used more of the Girls’ Paperie papers included in the kit. I just love the colors and patterns.

Tara wraps all the embellishments and papers in beautiful brown paper bags with string. Love this packaging and it’s so easy to reuse into a layout for a fun look. I just love how this paper bag says Made in Canada. How perfect for a layout on my little guys.

Quick Tip: Journal between the lines of  striped paper for some built in journaling lines.

Have a wonderful Saturday!

A Little Charm

Back in the CLASSroom today with a fun soldered bracelet. I love trying out new things. I’ve actually soldered before but it’s been a while. And I have to admit, I learned the hard way on proper soldering iron care so this isn’t my best attempt.

Stop by the CLASSroom for info on this project and learn what I learned without the pain. 😉

And another quick piece of news… Ellen has all Vintag, Simply Swank and Webster’s Pages in the store 15% off now through June 6th. Check out the details here.

Have a fabulous weekend!

No Place Like Home

There’s just no place like home is there? I love getting away but I love coming home just as much. A place where you can relax, live and just be yourself. Home holds a special place in our lives so it’s no wonder that a very prevalent trend in paper crafting right now is home themed product. For today’s challenge on Splitcoaststampers, I’d like to challenge you to find ways to use home items in your crafting. Whether it’s a little house, a stamped image, a paper pieced home, or even some home furnishings, I’d love to see how you use this hot trend. Check out the challenge here.

From Our House to Yours

I had so much fun creating this whimsical card scene from some sweet patterned paper, little chipboard houses, stamps and sticky back canvas. I’ve used the Mi Casa stamp set and the Cling Ledger stamp by Hero Arts.

Quick Tip: Think of different materials to use besides paper to add a little fun texture. Here I’ve stamped on Sticky Back Canvas for the cloud shape.

Supply List: kraft cardstock by Bazzill, Mi Casa & Cling Ledger stamp sets by Hero Arts, canvas flower & patterned paper by Jillibean Soup, twine, chipboard houses & heart pin by Maya Road, paper clip by Advantus, Jet Black Archival Ink and Antique Linen Distress Ink by Ranger, Sticky Back Canvas by Advantus, sewing machine, Shell pink and Aqua Paint Dabbers by Ranger

Happy Stamping!

sweet sixteen

Life is strange you know. Sometimes being 16 seems so very long ago and other times, you wonder just where the years went as you feel like the same girl inside.

I wanted to try and capture the sweet moments of being sixteen for my daughter and turned to some beautiful product from Lily Bee Design‘s Lovely line for a fresh but shabby look. Aren’t these papers and accents gorgeous?!

A two page layout can be hard to see in blog format so here are the separate pages…

For a few easy distressed details, I’ve added in some ink, sanding and distressing. Adding a crackle finish to embellishments is also a fun  and quick way to add texture and some subtle distressing. I have short tutorial on it on the Lily Bee blog today so stop by if you can.
