Simply Saturday…a smile and a peek

Crocodile Smile

jks-crocodile-smile.jpg

And here’s the first of my sneak peeks! This set is particularly dear to me as I’ve always loved sewing. My grandmother had a treadle sewing machine in her farm house and I was always fascinated by the mechanics and how she could create the most beautiful projects on such a basic machine. I taught myself to sew as a child and came back to it with a passion after the birth of my first child. Little shorts, baby rompers, wall-quilts and then smocked dresses after my daughter arrived. While I don’t do much fabric stitching these days, I rarely put my machine away as I always love to add stitching to my paper crafts projects. This set combines them both. 🙂

 I’m Not Biased

jks-im-not-biased.jpg

For this card I combined the very beautiful and fabric inspired June Bug paper with lots of stitching and a couple stamps from my new set.

Quick Tip: Stamp on twill tape for a unique look.

Quite the Pear

I’m super excited to be starting something new today! I’ll be in the CLASSroom. 🙂 No…not back to school but I’ll be designing for Ellen Hutson LLC and part of her CLASSroom team. Ellen has been one of my stamping heroes for years and I’m thrilled to be part of her crew. Ellen has introduced the stamping world to so many fabulous products. I first learned about Copics from Ellen, inchies and others. Did you know that Ellen is the brain child behind Spellbinders Nestabilities? Ellen has a incredibly talented team of designers that I’m thrilled to be associated with as well.

Quite the Pear

quite-the-pear-small.jpgI’ll be posting every Friday on the CLASSroom and you can look for tutorials there. My first project for the CLASSroom is an anniversary card for my hubby.  It will be twenty years next month. Where do the years go?!

I’ve used the new Can It All Things Considered set on this design, the yummy new Early Bird Mini Deck and created my own custom coordinating button to accent the design. I hope you’ll stop by and visit the CLASSroom today.

Take care and enjoy your weekend!

Revved up for Red

jks-garden-friend-close.jpg

I have no idea when it happened. It just kind of snuck up on me. I was never a “red” person. I didn’t wear it, decorate with it except for perhaps a touch on Christmas cards. So where did this current love affair with red come from?! Now I’ll be the first to admit, I still don’t use it in large doses but it does keep appearing in a lot of my projects the past few weeks. The thing with red is it pops. There’s no ignoring it. And so another Ways to Use it Challenge is born. Find ways to use red. Whether you use a little or a lot. Use a rose red, bright primary red, cranberry or a rusty red, I hope you’ll play along and get revved up for red. Here’s the challenge…

Garden Friendship

jks-garden-friendship.jpg

One of my favorite ways to use red is to perk up some fun vintage style designs. I love how the red really pops up the color.

Quick Tip: To tone down red accessories, sand the color off slightly or add a little ink.

Red Combos that I love…

  • red, aqua, black, vanilla
  • red, pink, line, soft yellow
  • red, white and blue
  • red, kraft and white
  • cranberry and olive
  • red, teal & olive
  • red, pink & orange

Supply List: Stamps: Newspaper Ads Scrapblock & Script Essential Expressions by CHF, Ink: Tuxedo Black and Rose Bud by Tsukineko, Paper: white cardstock by Bazzill, red cardstock by Prism, Lemonade 6×6 paper pad by Basic Grey, Other: sewing machine, twine, Tim Holtz Mini Stapler, garden accent by Craft Secrets, sand paper, ribbon by Making Memories
Things are going to be pretty fun for me over the next week or so. I’m starting something new and exciting tomorrow and I have not one but TWO new releases next week. I’ll be starting sneak peeks on Saturday. 🙂

Happy creating!

And so it begins…

And so it begins…another busy year of school, lunches, homework, practices etc. On one hand I’m so grateful for the return to scheduling, a little peace and quiet during the day but oh…I’m going to miss the long days of summer, time on the water, the smell of sunscreen, sticky ice cream kisses and lazy morning snuggles. There is just nothing quite like summer. We ended up eking out  the last few days of summer on the sand over the weekend and so it was a great way to finish up. This morning the backpacks are packed, lunches have been made, the back to school photos taken and now we’re off to meet the new teachers. Wish us luck as three of the four attending school this year are starting a new school.

Seeds of Thanks

I put this card together with some things that  I had on my desk. I love creating without any pre-conceived idea in my head…just putting things together for the fun of it.

Supply List: cardstock by Bazzill, patterned paper & Wild Card by October Afternoon, Seed annual piece by Crafty Secrets, flower by Prima, chipboard by American Crafts, sewing machine, ribbon, corsage pin

Candlelit Winter

jks-candlelit-winter.jpg

This card is an early Christmas card using a Shady Tree Studio release, Home for the Holidays. It’s actually more of a square shaped image but I wanted it long and more narrow so I die cut it with a Spellbinders die.

Quick Tip: To create a candle glow effect, take a very light yellow Copic marker and flick the color away from flame.

Stamps: Home for the Holidays (Shady Tree Studio line) by CHF, Ink: Black Memento by Tsukineko, Paper: Simply Smooth white cardstock by CHF, kraft cardstock by Bazzill, Blush Red Dark cardstock by Prism Papers, patterned paper by Little Yellow Bicycle, Other: Nestability die by Spellbinders, button by Autumn Leaves, embroidery thread, velvet die cut by Prima, Copic Markers

Take care and have a great day!

A Little Bit of This, a Little Bit of That…

It was supposed to be a week off, lol, but I ended up posting four days in a row. How did that happen?! Anyhow…we’ve managed to spend a few days at the beach since and I thought I’d pop in to say hi and share a little bit of this, a little bit of that… 🙂 I hope you’re having a fabulous Labor Day weekend!

I’ve been having so much fun with those Keep In Touch Card Kits. Here’s another vintage card using a bunch of the yummy goodies…

Here’s a few more Yudu projects from the Craft Critique review

…a t-shirt for one of my teenagers,

plane-print-t-shirt-yudu.jpg

…a fun screen printed page. I’m thinking of working it into a project for the door of that craft room I’m still waiting on.

And finally…a little bit of stamping…

jks-inchie-frame-note.jpg

Doesn’t the little bracket block stamp make the cutest inchie frame?

Quick Tip: Try stamping light on dark for a totally different look.

A Little Sand…

It’s amazing what a little sand can do. There’s nothing quite like walking on the beach is there? I can always feel the tension just easing away. I honor of the last long weekend of summer and the sand I hope to spend a lot of time on, I thought a Sand It challenge would be a lot of fun. Sand some edges, sand an image, sand embossing, even adhere sand to a project. Have fun with it and play along here.

Vintage Farm

jks-vintage-farm.jpg

One of my favorite sanding techniques is Faux Linen. It’s so easy to do. Stamp on glossy cardstock and allow t dry well. Then sand both horizontally and vertically. Sponge with ink to pick up the pattern of the sanding. On this design, I used a Cut N Dry nib by ranger to apply color to the barn  using Distress Ink.
Supply List:

Stamps: Sunset at Riverbend Farm (Thomas Kinkade line) by CHF
Ink: Black Memento by Tsukineko, Brushed Corduroy Distress ink by Ranger
Paper: Glossy White cardstock by Ranger, Black and Kraft cardstock by Bazzill Basics, patterned paper by
Other: denim by Prima, buttons by Autumn Leaves, sandpaper, labels dies by Spellbinders

I was actually going to make an additional project for this challenge but I’ve run into a camera snag.  My battery died and once again…I can’t find the charger. what DID I do with it after our last mini vacation?!

Happy creating!

A Bit of Autumn…

I’m afraid to say it but Fall is in the air. It’s feeling cool and crisp and you definitely need a sweater or more in the evenings. I hate the end of summer as it is just seems to go by so quickly. Once I get over it, I do fall in love with Fall. Apple picking, Canadian Thanksgiving, cool walks, falling leaves, pumpkins and squash. I also love Autumn themed projects and for some new releases…Becky has done it again! I’m just LOVING her new ATC sets…Can It & Fall Harvest. They’ve just been released and are so much fun to work with.

Quite the Pear

jks-quite-the-pear-box.jpg

This box is a sweet little Creative Imaginations box that I picked up on sale at Michael’s. It was white with a little hinged lid as is the perfect size for a small gift or a gift card. I stamped all six sides and colored in the images with Copic Markers. Sponging distress inks on the edges instantly gave it the more worn, vintage style that I wanted.

Stamps: Can It (ATC line) by CHF
Ink: Rich Cocoa & Tuxedo Black Memento Ink by Tsukineko, Brushed Corduroy Distress Ink by Ranger
Paper: Simply Smooth white cardstock by CHF
Other: box by Creative Imaginations, ribbon by May Arts, safety pin by Creative Impressions, Copic Markers

Fall Raven

jks-fall-raven.jpg

Here’s another little design. This is a 4.25″ square card using Jenni Bowlin papers. I stamped the raven onto some patterned paper and added a touch of stitching.
Stamps: Fall harvest (ATC line) by CHF
Ink: Tuxedo Black Memento ink byTsukineko
Paper: Simply Smooth white cardstock by CHF, patterned paper by Jenni Bowlin & Graphic 45
Other: ric rak by Creative Impressions, button brad, flower by Creative Impressions, sewing machine

I’m pretty excited as I’ve pretty much finished up all the deadlines that I had to do this week and my stamp set is ready for plating. Yay! This one is definitely a labor of love. I hoping to squeeze in a few more beach days before school starts!

Take care!
