What do yudu?

I’ve been super busy the past week, trying out a new crafting tool. Ever heard of the yudu? So…what DO you do with a yudu?! The yudu is a personal screen printing machine by Provo Craft and it is a LOT of fun. A learning curve to be sure, but I’ve tried and tested and came up with a lot of tips. Check out the entire article here at Craft Critique.

One of my first projects was a silk screened butterfly. Love this butterfly! It made it onto cloth napkins, a cloth pencil case and a little cloth bag. It would be totally cute on a t-shirt too!

This butterfly image came from a digital brush set by Anna Aspnes of Designer Digitals  Brush set is called Tribute No. 1 Brush Set. Before using an image for your crafting use, be sure to check out the Terms of Use. Most purchased digital images are usable for personal crafting use in multi-media.

I also wanted to give silk screening paper a whirl. You know how much I love paper! Silk screening gives a totally different look in person than stamping or printing on the computer. Really, really, really cool!

This is a fun little note set I created. The crown is from the same Anna Aspnes brush set as above.

Take care and have a crafty day!

Shimmer and Serenity on Saturday

I created another card using the Shimmerz products. This time it features masking and the Shimmerz Spritz. I didn’t capture the shimmer in this photo but it looks gorgeous in person. To create this design, I placed a Heidi Swapp mask over the cardstock and then spritzed it with the gorgeous pink shimmer spray. After allowing to dry, I removed the mask and then stamped with my Vintage Text Scrapblock. I hated to cover up any of it so the design was kept simple. I stitched on a vellum overlay so that you could still see through but also have a place to add the sentiment.

Vintage Variety

I love blog hopping on some sketch blogs when I actually get a chance to blog hop. A few week’s ago, I was checking out the Card Positioning Systems blog and was so inspired by their fantastic designs featuring their weekly sponsor. I’d never heard of  Keep in Touch Card Shop before but the fun vintage goodies and papers had me hooked right away. I had a little shopping spree and it wasn’t long until some goodies were in my mail box. I had to wait a couple weeks to play as things were busy but this week I finally found a little time for fun.

I’ve also been busy this week setting up a little Etsy store. I’ve had a few inquiries lately about selling my creations and so I finally got around to figuring it all out. There’s a new blog button link on the top right of my sidebar and you can also check it out here. Thanks so much for your interest!

And finally, as today is Thursday, it’s time for another challenge. Today I’m challenging you to a little vintage fun and to find some vintage things to put onto a card design. Look for vintage buttons, old cards and paper, lace, fabric…whatever you can think of. Have fun with it and the entire challenge details are here.

Soar

jks-soar-vintage-card.jpg

Here’s the vignette kit that I purchased and you can see how I used some of the supplies to make this card. I just added a few extra scraps of my own and a little stitching and I still have supplies for another couple projects. Alas, I was having so much fun with all the goodies, I didn’t even ink up one stamp. I supposed I could have squeezed in a little sentiment just to the right of the bird but I kind of like it the way it is so I called it done.

Quick Tip: Adhere sequins with Glossy Accents or other clear dimensional glaze. They make a fabulous adhesive.  Adhere sequins over printed polka dots for a fun look.

Supply List: Keep In Touch Vignette Kit, sewing machine, kraft cardstock by Bazzill Basics, lace paper by Basic Grey, ball trim by Fancy Pants Designs

Happy Creating!

All that Shimmerz

I love trying out new products so when Shimmerz Paints team paired up with Cornish Heritage Farms for a fun swap, I wanted to sign up for the fun! One of the products I received are Shimmerz Paints. These are little pots of liquid paint with shimmer in them. I have the blue and cream pots and thought this image would work well with them. It’s a sneak peek at Kim Hughes next stamp set, Winter Trees. Is that snowman not absolutely adorable or what?! I’m sneaking a little early so shh….don’t tell on me! 😉 It was on my desk and the colors were perfect and I just couldn’t resist!

This design is part of a fun stamp and shimmer blog hop. Next on the hop list is the wonderful and talented Becky Olsen. Make sure you hop over and give her a little love. 🙂

Winter Shimmerz Card

jks-winter-shimmerz-card.jpg

You can see the shimmer best in the below picture. I painted the blue Shimmerz paint on the scarf and painted most of the snowman with cream to get a shimmery shadow and depth. The Shimmerz paints are super easy to use. I simply dipped in a watercolor brush and painted them on. To add more color to my design, I pulled out my Copic markers and added in the red, orange and greens. The fun part is the cream Shimmerz paint is fairly translucent and I was able to paint over the Copic marker color and add glittery highlights to the colored sections of the image.

Quick Tip: Shake your Shimmerz bottles and pots  well before using to ensure the shimmer is well mixed in.

Wish Come True

Do you hoard crafting goodies? I do! I really try not to but there’s always something I plan to use that I keep saving for something special. I came across this beautiful My Mind’s Eye product in one of my piles and thought it was long overdue being made into a project. The colors of this line are so yummy! They remind me of ice cream. 🙂 Today, why not create with something you’ve been hoarding? I’d love to see!

Now today is Thursday and I didn’t forget about the challenge. I have to be out and about today and so Michele Boyer is filling in for me. Thanks M! Check out the challenge here. I think it will give you the warm and fuzzies. 😉
