Sketch 49

I had so much fun this week combining the Card Patterns sketch 49 with some goodies from a Jenni Bowlin kit. I thought they worked together well to make a textured and shabby valentine for hubby. Check out the sketch challenge here.

Quick Tip: Sand letters to make them fit with a shabbier style if you need to. For this design, I only had some very shiny metallic red letters that looked very modern for my design. A little sandpaper made them work with the look.

Snow

I’m having a blast with my 30 in 30 challenge. So much so that I’m actually ahead of the game! You should see my studio though…it looks like a tornado hit it. One good thing is that I have a place for everything and it will clean up fairly quickly.That’s just one of many items on my to do list today.

This layout uses photos I took last Saturday. The little boys were having a blast. We’ll be staying instead today though…the thermometer is reading -20°C. A little too cold for my taste.

Quick Tip: Layer chipboard over and around photos. The swirl chipboard on the bottom left “frames” the photo and draws attention to the sweet expression and my little guy’s face.

Textiles

I love textiles. Long before I ever discovered the joy of paper crafting, I loved to sew. There is something magical about creating things whether it be clothing, home decor or layouts and cards. More and more I’m seeing the two worlds mix as textiles are a big trend in paper crafting right now. I’m lovin’ it!

I also thought this would make a great challenge. I hope you’ll join me today for the Ways to Use Textiles challenge.

 Postal Miss You

For this card, I’ve stamped on some Prima printed canvas. I can’t tell you how much mileage I’ve gotten from one 12×12 sheet of it. I am determined not to throw away a single scrap as it is so pretty and fun to work with. I’ve used my On the Desk stamp set and mixed it up with some fun bright embellishments. I was wishing I could get a away some place tropical and send this card back. A girl can dream!

a little start to finish…

This card uses some October Afternoon paper mixed with a couple stamps from Cornish Heritage Farms.

30 in 30 update: I’m having a great time working on layouts. I’m actually ahead of the game. To stay on track, I decided to make myself a new blog page (see the top of the banner), very creatively named 30 in 30. 😉 I’m keeping a list of where I am and a few pictures of some of what I’ve created. A few people have jumped in and decided to scrap along with me. So fun! Feel free to do the same with your own 30 in 30 timeline. It’s really easier than I thought to do one a day.

Thanks so much for the sweet response to my scrapbooking challenge post yesterday. I’m never quite sure how readers are going to take a different crafting approach. I really appreciate all the encouragement. I have to say…now that I’m back at scrapping a little, I’m loving it. It’s actually full circle for me to where I started paper crafting a decade ago. Styles, products and my take on it have certainly changed as the years have passed.

This layout is #2  in my 30 in 30 challenge. I’m not quite as thrilled with this layout but that’s OK. It’s all about enjoying the process and learning as you go. I’m still working on getting good photos of my layouts. It’s actually quite different from shooting cards and I’m continually frustrated that they look much better in person.

the challenge…

My friend Becky issued me a challenge the other day. I’d been whining, I admit it, how I had planned to do more scrapping but never seemed to get around to it. Her solution: scrap a page a day.

Yikes. YIKES!

Daunting to be sure. I can’t do that.

But I kept thinking. And thinking. And thinking.

And I accept.

I’m going to give it a whirl. For the next 30 days. And maybe even longer.

We’ll see.

And now that the decision is made. I’m excited.

So much so that I couldn’t wait to get started. Here’s number one…

P.S. Just I case you think you’ll be inundated with layouts…I won’t be sharing them all every day. I’ll keep you  apprised of how I’m doing and share a few but I’ll still be posting cards and other paper crafting.

Quick Tip: Use rub-ons  as a layer instead of paper to put an interesting spin on your sketch.
