A Blast….

I’m having a blast with this Out of this World stamp set by Lizzie Anne Designs. I have two little guys (…some big kids too) and this set is perfect for them. It seems the 5yo has started an endless round of birthday parties and this is the set I’m turning to each time I need another little boy card. For this design I paired it up with this new Cogsmo 8 line from Cosmo Cricket. I just love the 8×8 packs that I buy from Jacksonbelle. Perfect size for small layouts, cards and altered projects.

Out of this World Birthday

jks-out-of-this-world-birth.jpg

This was a super quick card to make. The Cogsmo 8 pack came with this Out of this world journaling card. To create my design I simply stamped my sentiment right on the card as well as the red blast from the rocket. The card was then sponged with distress ink on the edges, matted with a solid paper from the package, stapled and adhered to the design. For my main image, the rocket, I stamped it with Pitch Black Adirondack ink onto one of the lighter blue papers. With my Copic markers, I added some simple coloring and then set the windows with my eyelets. After cutting out the design, I popped up the image on foam tape. I’m loving these 3D stars from Creative Impressions. All I needed on this simple design was one in the right bottom corner to finish it off.

Hope your day is a blast! Check back in tomorrow for a fun Ways to Use it Challenge!

Hmmmmm….those missing blog comments….

Well it seems with the blog server upgrades, that my comments are still MIA. Normally this wouldn’t be too much of a problem but in this instance, it means that almost half of my blog giveaway comments are gone. Since I have no way of knowing when they will appear, I’ve decided you’ve waited more than long enough! Here’s my solution! I’m drawing from the 108 comments I still have on that post. If your comment does not appear on that list meaning yours was wiped out…please comment again if you wish on THIS thread. I’ll choose another winner for some surprise goodies Friday morning. Sound fair? And so finally!….

The winner of my birthday celebration goodies is number 12. Please e-mail me with your address so I can get these on their way!

Happy {belated} Birthday, Julia! Sorry to hear your celebrating consisted of hours of grouting tile, but at least now you’re a little closer to having a completed kitchen. ;) Hopefully you were blessed with a birthday cake/pie/cupcake and happy hugs and wishes from your family and friends somewhere in the day as well. And thanks for sharing your special day with us by giving us the opportunity to win some cool goodies!

Apr 8, 3:33 PM — just edited to remove the delete links which actually deleted the original comment post because I thought huh? WHy can I click on this? Grrr… technology…I have a love/hate relationship with it!

Thanks so much everyone for the lovely birthday wishes! While I had a very busy birthday…my kitchen floor is now looking lovely and the kitchen is slowly coming together. As of Saturday night I finally had a working sink and dishwasher too. It is amazing how we take all these things for granted! Thanks also for all the great questions. I’ll be answering these as I can in the upcoming weeks. 🙂

Again…my apologies for the missing comments. It was totally out of my control. Good luck to those who don’t have comments on the original post.

Have a great night!

Julia

PS If you’ve been trying to get a hold of me…I’m working my way through my inbox. I’ve had a dreadful cold and am only functioning half the time. 🙁

Beautiful U

I’m back to scrapping a little lately. I’m having so much fun with the larger canvas size. When I received this new Shady Daisy Backgrounder in the mail last week, I just had to try it out slightly behind a photo. With the CHF Backgrounder Blitz kicking off this Friday night, I’ve been having some fun thinking up lots of ways to use them. I created this layout for a friend’s daughter who was so sweet to make me a beautiful card for my birthday. I happened to have this photo of her from the beach last summer and thought it would be fun to work with. This layout actually does not translate well on the screen. I went for a soft shabby look and it just looks washed out. 🙁 The photo I used various filters on it for a soft unfocused dreamy look.

Beautiful U

jks-beautiful-u-revised-pic.jpg

After yesterday’s long post, I’m keeping this one short! I’ve been exhausted with a Spring cold and jks-beautiful-u-close.jpgspent most of the day yesterday with a blanket around me. A couple things about this layout…I used the Lined Paper Backgrounder to add interest behind my photo and also as a journaling box where it shows beneath the photo. On my Maya Road chipboard…I brushed on some Distress Crackle Paint to finish the surface and add texture. A little stitching around the Shady Daisy image gives the illusion of a layer and the stitching around the other soft layers helps add some structure to the layout.

Quick Tip: Don’t be afraid to ink the edges of your photos. It can help them stand out without adding the bulk of another layer.

Wishing you a beautiful day!

CHF Challenge Chicks….I love CHF Challenge

jks-springtime-garden-strip.jpg

Alli had the greatest idea for this week’s challenge. Our challenge was to come up with three reasons why we love Cornish Heritage Farms and then design our project around it. I had the hardest time limiting it to three and so I squeezed in a few extras. I could have written more too! 🙂

Here’s a few of my thoughts…

  1. I love all the variety in the lines of stamps that Cornish Heritage Farms creates. Depending on my mood I can stamp anything! If I want fun and funky…the Kim Hughes designs are fabulous, grungy and shabby…I’m loving The Rummage Bin. Some days I want to color and the gorgeous Thomas Kinkade stamps are perfect for that as are the cute and furry Friendly Kritters by Tom Allen. Backgrounders are so versatile and go with all the lines as do Mona Lisa Moment’s sentiments. Add that to the super fabulous new lines that will be released in the upcoming months…there is never a dull stamping moment for me!
  2. I love the highest quality red rubber that CHF uses. It is fabulous! Deep clean cuts give a perfect impression and they ink up so easily. No fiddling around with inks trying to figure out which will bet a good impression with polymer stamps. Cornish Heritage farms also uses a deep etched engraving process to make the plates ensuring the best possible image. The unmounted cling foam option makes it easy to position the image on your design and frees up storage as well as making for more affordable stamps. I also think it is fabulous that Cornish Heritage Farms press their own rubber as well as cut and package it, right on the farm. Their attention to detail is amazing!
  3. I love CHF Backgrounders! Did you know that Cornish Heritage Farms/Sonlight Impressions made the first backgrounders out there? Sonlight Impressions actually used to make Stampin Up’s background stamps for them as well. CHF currently has NINETY…yes…that’s right… 90 backgrounder stamps and more to come! I love how flexible the backgrounders are. A lot of the designs will work well with any style of design.
  4. Richard and Liz…what can I say about them? They are fabulous to work for, dedicated, hard working and family always comes first. Did you know that they run the farm, as well as CHF, press all their rubber and package the orders. Customer service is always a top priority. Liz and Richard have four children as well. I’d like to know how they do it all!
  5. CHF designers…I just love working with theCornish Heritage Farms Design Team. So talented and caring and every single designer inspires me. I love the variety of styles these designers encompass. From shabby, scrappy, stampy and clean-style stampers…I just love the mix of talent. Their enthusiasm for CHF makes my job a joy.

My design for today’s challenge is based on my first reason above…I decided to use stamps from four different lines together. While there is a huge variety to choose from…a lot of these lines can be used together…especially the backgrounders and sentiments with other lines.

I hope you’ll take some time today to do a little blog hopping to see the other designs created for this challenge. You can check them out at….

Springtime Garden

jks-springtime-garden.jpg

Since I wanted to feature stamps from four different lines on this design, I decided to keep my layout and embellishments simple. Actually…all the stamping is simple on this design…just layers of solid colors. While sending some of the boys off on the bus this morning…I noticed some of my garden starting to shoot up from the ground. I just love my daylilies…strong and beautiful. That and the fact that I just can’t kill them! 😉

For my stamps I first used my Woodgrain Backgrounder stamped in white pigment ink. I then added in some flowers and greenery using my new Nature’s Silhouettes from the Kim Hughes line. To add the clock (my springtime inspiration) and my flourish, I used the Time to Stamp and Beautiful sets from The Rummage Bin line. Finally…my main image and sentiment came from the Bird Sampler set from the Asela line.

A little sponging and distressing add to the shabby garden look. My simple embellishment additions are some of my favorites…my Prima flower hydrangea of course and the brown gingham ribbon and dragonfly brad from Creative Impressions.

Whew! That was a long-winded post…even for me! 😉 I hope you managed to stick with me through it! Wishing you a fabulous week!

Simply Saturday… patterned paper?

It’s simply Saturday again and today I’m so excited to be off taking a class on Distress Inks. Love these inks and I KNOW I’m going to learn a lot today! I ended up having such a hard time with my printer last night, I don’t think my photos are going to work well but I’ll have lots of fun anyway! In the meantime I have a quick simple design for you using my new Nature’s Silhouettes stamp set from Cornish Heritage Farms. It’s gorgeous like the rest of Kim’s Silhouette sets and so easy to use.

I paired up my new set with three backgrounders to produce my own patterned paper. I’m really pleased with it. It looks pretty real doesn’t it? Can you tell I’m so excited about the upcoming Backgrounder Blitz I’m already thinking up fun ways to use them?

Simply Nature For You

jks-simply-nature-for-you.jpg

So….the secret to making this “patterned paper” is to use layers of background stamps and various inks. I was inspired by some new My Mind’s Eye paper I had just purchased. I love this Large jks-simply-nature-for-you-c.jpgPolka Dots backgrounder and started off with it. I used my Versamagic Chalk inks and my Color box pigment cat’s eyes to layer on color on different parts of the backgrounder. The white dots are actually a very pale pink. After stamping these, I used my Scratched Grid backgrounder inked randomly in the same pale pink to get a sanded distressed look. I used my third backgrounder on top of that…the Spanish Script Backgrounder. This one I sparsely inked in citron green before stamping over the top. To the edges, I lightly applied my white pigment ink direct to paper to give a soft edge.

For the rest of my design…a super simple layout…it’s Saturday right? Very little embellishing…just felt like a simple clean look today. The jeweled flower is from Imaginesce.

Hoping your Saturday is simply wonderful…

The Delay…

I just wanted to pop in and tell you about the blog candy delay. The whole story is this. Some new server upgrades rendered some of our blogs without categories and a blog roll. It was quite the surprise to wake up a couple mornings ago and find it all gone. I’m  happy to say, the experts have been hard and work and restored all the categories and my blogroll. To do this…I had to save all my recent posts and then re-upload them. The comments will be restored….it is just taking some time. So….until then, I want to be fair and wait on those other comments being restored before I draw a number for my winner. Thanks so much for your patience!  I’m hoping I’ll be able to announce it tomorrow evening. I’m going to be away most of the day tomorrow so don’t want you to be checking all day. I DO have a blog post for Simply Saturday tomorrow morning…so check back in for that too. Hope you have a great weekend!

F is for Friendship

F is for Friendship. I created this friendship card yesterday for today’s post. Yay! I finally got most of my stamps in the mail. So much fun to play with new rubber! This design uses the new Shady Daisy Backgrounder stamp from Cornish Heritage Farms. I just love the big gorgeous daisy. Backgrounder stamps are so much fun to work with. I’ve always been a huge fan. If you like backgrounders, you’ll want to stay tuned for our CHF Backgrounder Blitz starting next Friday. The Blitz is a week’s worth of challenges for you to play along with. Best of all, we want you to join in on the fun and play along too for chances to win prizes. We’re even letting you know what they are ahead of time so you can fit it into your schedule. Is that great or what? Check it out at Backgrounder Blitz.

F Is for Friendship

jks-f-is-for-friendship.jpg

For this design, I paired up two backgrounders, Shady Daisy and Spanish Script with my For the Men stamp set from The Rummage Bin line. Who would have thought a masculine set would have such stunning sentiments? I just love all Lesley’s designs! The daisy is simply ink up with Versamagic Chalk ink in a soft aqua color and then stamped. After allowing to dry, the sentiments were stamped in Burnt Umber Palette ink.

On Monday…I had a fun trip to my local scrapbook store and picked up some beautiful new My Mind’s Eye Paper. I made it into a card base and of course…I had to stamp on it! The left side is stamped with the Spanish Script backgrounder and a flourish from the Beautiful set decorates the right.

A few embellishments finish it off….a Prima flower, Autumn Leaves button and Creative Impressions ribbon accent the left. To the right…some Doodlebug die cut strips are clipped on with a Making Memories clip.

Have a fabulous weekend!

P.S. I’ll be back soon with the winner of the blog candy soon.
