Poppy Tuesday & giveaway

jks-poppy-close.jpg

I just loved creating this card design. I’ve always loved using greens but I’m totally getting addicted to adding some red. Red and green are complementary colors which means that together they really pop. Is this poppy stamp gorgeous or what? I couldn’t resist using it again in this bolder card design. This time I’ve paired it up with the two new Scrapblocks that will be released Thursday. I can’t put them down and think they’ll be staples on my desk for a very long time. After all…they are very classic and go with almost anything. If you’re been enjoying the peeks at the new All Things Considered line, it hits the CHF store today. 🙂

To create the background on this card design, I stamped my Stitches Scrapblock in Versamark ink onto Simply Smooth White cardstock and then embossed with clear embossing powder.  This forms a resist and I then spritzed a mottled background with three colors of Glimmermist. The shimmer is so rich looking in person. The resist technique is one of the five challenges for the CHF Summer Stamp Star challenge. Are you up for playing along? If you missed the deets...check them out here.

Poppy Shimmer Card

Now finally…the giveaway!

Thanks for sticking with me. Lots to talk about this morning. 🙂 I’ve given you a few sneak peeks at my new Scrapblocks being released this Thursday, Vintage Text and Stitches Scrapblocks. I’m so excited about them I thought it would be fun to do an early giveaway. I have both Scrapblocks to give to ONE lucky winner. I’d love to know what kinds of projects you would use them for. Comment on this entry for a chance to win, before Wednesday June 17th at 11 pm EST. Winner will be drawn randomly by an on-line integer generator. I’ll be posting the winner Thursday morning.

Scrapblocks are 6″x6″ large background stamps of red rubber. They can be used with a large square acrylic block but often, I just use them on there own by laying them face-up on my worksurface.

Good luck and thanks for stopping by!

Monday Paris Style

jks-paris-close.jpg

I have another look at the new ATC, All Things Considered line. Today’s card uses the Key Elements set. There are so many beautiful images in this set. It’s hard to choose what to use. Now if you’re wondering how this line works, there are lots of fabulous elements that can work on any design as well as one ATC sized stamp. Think mini background to fit an ATC card, 2.5 x 3.5″ in size. In this design you can see how I used it on a card as a panel element. They also make fabulous tags or decorative elements for an altered project or layout.I stamped my ATC sized image and the circular image onto Simply Smooth Vanilla cardstock and then colored them in with Copic markers.

Did you notice the background? No…it’s not stitched but STAMPED.  It’s a peek at the second Scrapblock being released this month, the Stitches Scrapblock. I was really excited to design this stamp. You know how much I love stitching and this stamp is a great and easy way to add interest and the stitching look to your project.

I also just have to have a proud momma moment and share with you one of the drawings my daughter did this year in her grade ten art class. Colored pencils have never been my forte but she really shines with them. This drawing as well as a painting of hers went into her school art show this year. I’m hoping she’ll take the time to draw her younger brothers this summer. I would treasure it.

All Things Considered

jks-botan-slice.jpg

I just could not wait any longer to tell you about a brand new line from Cornish Heritage Farms. It’s called All Things Considered and it’s an ATC line. ATC, All Things Considered…get it? 🙂 Now if you DON’T create ATC’s you’re still going to love it! It works fabulously with cards, altered projects, tags… just about anything you want to create. Here’s a first sneak peek at one of the sets, Botanical Bliss. I didn’t even use the ATC image on this design and it makes a great card.  The new All Things Considered line launches this Tuesday. Just two more sleeps!

Becky Olsen designed these gorgeous sets and you really should stop by her blog. She has a set to share with someone. 🙂

Want a peek at the other set? I’ve written a little entry on the CHF Creative Blog here on using an ATC three different ways.

Botanical Bliss

jks-botanica-bliss.jpg

These images are so lovely, I just decided to keep this design simply elegant. I love the Basic Grey Porcelain paper pad I have and the soft elegance works well with this set. I created my little accent tag by stamping, coloring, then punching out my circular poppy image. I matted it with a Small Scalloped Circles Nestability die. To add a little extra dimension, I put a clear scalloped dimensional sticker on top. It looks lovely catching the light in person.

Quick Tip: you can use Copic markers on papers besides white and vanilla. Try it out on Kraft or other light-medium cardstock for a unique look.

Supply List:

Stamps: Botanical Bliss (All Things Considered line) by CHF
Ink: Black adn Burnt Umber Memento Ink by Tsukineko
Paper: Simply Smooth Vanilla by CHF, kraft cardstock by Bazzill, Porcelain 6×6 paper pad by Basic Grey
Other: ribbon, thread by Bazzill, Nestaability die by Spellbinders, copic markers

Take care and have a lovely Sunday!

Simply Saturday… simply smile

I have a couple simple, fresh cards to share with you today. They both feature sweet stamped images from the most recent Kim Hughes release, Go Fish. My absolutely favorite image from the set is the beautiful waterlily. My mom had a lovely pond with waterlilies and there is something so beautiful and peaceful about them.

Smile

jks-smile.jpg

This first design is colored with Copic markers. I punched a square out of a piece of scratch paper to create a mask and then stamped the waterlily through the square. It was super easy to airbrush in the water with the mask in place and then color in the rest of my design.

Quick Tip: After placing my Kaiser rhinestone rectangles, you could see the little tabs of adhesive that kept both squares together. I used some super sharp mini scissors to snip this away and keep the look nice and clean.

Supply List:
Stamps: Go Fish, Tag! You’re It! (Kim hughes line) by Cornish Heritage Farms
Ink: Black Memento by Tsukineko
Paper: Simply Smooth white cardstock by CHF
Other: rhinestones by Kaiser, markers & air brush by Copic

Dropping You a Line

jks-dropping-you-a-line.jpg

This image was stamped with Stazon ink onto watercolor paper and then watercolored with dye-based markers.  It’s super easy to go around each area with a marker and then pull the color towards the center with a waterbrush. I’ve always love the soft art-feel of watercolor. I kept the rest of the design simple for a fresh look. Don’t you just love that big embroidered K & Co. brad? I picked up a package at Michael’s and the color and texture is sooooo pretty.

Supply List:
Stamps: Go Fish (Kim Hughes line) by Cornish Heritage Farms
Ink: Black Stazon by Tsukineko
Paper: watercolor paper, cardstock by Bazzill Basics, Just Chillin’ 6×6 paper pad “girl” from Making Memories, dye markers, waterbrush by Niji

Have a simply wonderful Saturday!

School’s End

wow. It’s been quite the week. The kids especially are needing a little extra care. Monday we had a funeral for my hubby’s great aunt, Wednesday we found out that my two youngest have to change schools this Fall and yesterday we buried Sherman. Thanks so much for your sweet comments on the loss of Sherman. We really appreciate them and your support overwhelming.

It’s been hard to get much creating done but I do have a card design to share with you today. It’s going out to  my son’s grade one teacher. She has been the best this year. It’s been so exciting to see the growth. My boy is reading English and French, enjoying school and feeling confident. She will be sincerely missed. We’re busy winding down the last few weeks of school. I know for many of you school is already out but high school exams start next Friday and primary students have another two weeks. We’re also busy with getting ready for a grade eight grad. We bought the new black suit, white shirt and grey tie last Saturday and wow …. he’s looking so grown up. I hope you won’t mind me sharing some proud momma pics after the grad. 🙂

Now after much rambling…. I have the winner for the Great Canadian Stamp set. The random.org integer generator chose number 14. Congrats to Deb V! Deb said…

What a great set. I have a ton of ideas that it would be perfect for. My brother-in-law is in the forces, and we celebrate Canada Day big time.

Please e-mail me with your address and enjoy the set!  Happy Canada Day, eh?

Thanks Teacher

jks-apple-teacher-thanks.jpg

Lots of stamping on this card design. I used stamps to create the backgrounds and sentiment for this teacher card. I thought it would be much more interesting to stamp the ruler repeatedly on the angle. My tree is my favorite part of the design. I used Maya Road chipboard and then altered it with paint, distress crackle paint and an embossing folder. I’m having so much fun adding texture to it. If you’re looking to customize chipboard…it’s MUCH faster than trying to adhere patterned paper.

jks-apple-teacher-close.jpg

Quick Tip: Add red buttons to a tree to add the look of apples.

Supply List:

Stamps:
Distressed Circles Scrapblock by Cornish Heritage Farms
Making the Grade (Kim Hughes line) by Cornish Heritage Farms
Ink: White pigment ink by Clearsnap, burnt Umber Palette Ink by Stewart Superior
Paper: Kraft, Frosted Teal, Blush Red Dark cardstock by Prism
Other: Chipboard by Maya Road, punch, stapler, buttons by Autumn Leaves, embroidery thread, paint by Ranger

A Faithful Friend

Sherman
jks-sherman.jpg

It’s a sad morning in the Stainton household. Our very dear and faithful friend passed away in the night. We’ll miss his constant presence, his warm brown eyes, his gentleness. Sherman was born on our farm Christmas Day 1997 as one of thirteen puppies. He was the one we chose to keep and named him Sherman after the tank…he was a very sturdy build. He loved “patrolling” the borders of our property and playing with the kids. He never cared how rough they were but when tired of the rough-housing would just stand up, shake them off and lumber off. I knew that Sherman was getting older and have been keeping a special eye on him. He rarely left the porch except when he needed to. He seemed content to lie in the sun. It was a bit of a surprise to go out this morning and not find him there. We found him behind the house as if he were sleeping.

Sherman was a very special dog and will be missed.

I don’t have a card for you this morning and will be back with the WT challenge next week. If you check out the SCS forums, Cindy Coutts has kindly stepped in to host for me today.

Take care,

Julia
