ready for spring

Happy Spring!

Today is the first official day of Spring and my goodness, it’s going to feel more like summer this afternoon if we hit the projected high. It’s way past time to change my wardrobe over. Capris and sandals are in order for today.

My card today features some sweet rain boots which are more traditionally worn this time of year. The stamp set is by Avocado Arts and is very much a favorite of mine.

Masking is a great technique for stamping and this design uses a lot of masking. Masking gives stamped scenes a dimensional look and is worth the little extra time involved. Here’s my steps…

1.       Mask outer edges of cardstock to create image box.

2.       Stamp rubber boot and mask boot.

3.       Stamp boot again and mask it.

4.       Stamp grass, clouds and sentiment.

5.       Remove all masks.

6.       Color in boots with Copic Markers.

7.       Mat image and adhere to card.

8.       Tie button with twine and adhere.

crowned

I don’t often make shaped cards but when I do, they are always worth the extra effort. Of the shaped cards I make, I think the crown design is my favorite. It’s easy once you’ve created a template and it’s so girly and fun to embellish.

For easy measuring and proportions, I created this card to be 4″ x 6″ in size and then cut out the triangles from the top. Some patterned paper from the Victoria Park 6×6 Tiny Tablet gives this card a young and feminine look and is stitched around the edges. Some Maya Road chipboard buttons are also covered with some of the papers in this line for accents.

Lots of pretty trims and embellishments are clustered together in this design. The main floral accent is the new Maya Road Antique Pearl Center Flower Trim and is one of my top faves from their latest release. You can use this trim as a ribbon type accent or cut the flowers out individually like I’ve done here.

natural beauty tag

Here’s a simple little tag to share with you on this simply beautiful day.

I was having a little fun with some simple crafting the other day and wanted to see how rub-ons would work on wood. Absolutely wonderful in case you’re wondering! The colored butterflies look stunning on the natural wood and transfered on like butter.

singing for spring

Signs of Spring are everywhere. I don’t know about you but my heart is singing for the joy of it.

Today’s Song of Spring card is a recent design I created for the CLASSroom.  Why not join me for the tutorial and step outs here?

Hope your Saturday is sublime!

pocket full of posies

It’s almost Spring! Just a few more days until it’s officially here but with the crazy unseasonably warm weather we’re having I’m certainly believing. It actually feels more like it’s almost summer. Who ever heard of having 20° C weather in Ontario mid-March?! I’m so excited to see the beautiful perennial shoots coming up more each day.

Spring has me dreaming of flowers and I’ve created a couple designs featuring the gorgeous Maya Road flowers. The fabrics and textures are beyond beautiful.

Both of today’s projects feature pockets…one, a kraft envelope makes a sweet posie pocket on the front of a card and two, an embellished Burlap Treasure Bag from Maya Road makes a great gift  pocket for jewelry, lavender or even a gift card.

Today I’m sharing these projects with additional photos on the Maya Road blog. Come take a peek!

follow your dreams

Today’s an exciting day as I’m finally seeing Victoria Park hit some stores. It’s always a dream come true to see my product designs hitting the shelves. Dreams are important you know. I’m always trying to encourage my children to follow theirs.

Today’s project is a scrapbook layout I created of my daughter for the Lily Bee CHA booth display. There’s lots of great prints and colors in this line and I hope you’ll enjoy mix and matching them as much as I did.

One of my favorite products is the Lily Bee Index Cards. They make great accents for both cards and layouts.
