Whatcha Gonna Do?

Whatcha gonna do with those kids all summer long? It’s always a big task keeping them busy and happy, I know! I always find it a real challenge as I have so many different age groups to please…the perils of a large family. One thing I’ve learned to do is at the beginning of the summer, make a big long list of things you want to do with them. Have the kids make a list too. If it’s long, you may want to take the time to prioritize them…what are the must-dos and what would be nice but it optional. Trust me…with five kids, I never get everything on the list done. Ideas can be no cost like going to the library, walking in the park, having a friend over, low cost such as baking cookies, making treats and gifts, seeing a second-run movie as well as the more expensive vacation and site-seeing trips. My favorite way to spend a summer day is on the beach making sandcastles. Another idea I have always tried to incorporate into my children’s lives is exploring their creativity with arts and crafts. Yes…they sometimes make a mess but it is great entertainment value. I’m so glad my mother put up with me!

Paper Crafts Magazine has and awesome new publication out called PC Kids. I just got my copies the other day and I was so inspired looking through this HUGE issue. Whether you have little ones or older kids, there are so many fabulous ideas in this publication. Actually…I found a lot of ideas that I would like to use for my own crafting. This issue is not just for kids! One of the ideas I thought was perfect was a photo magnet strip for holding papers. It is just the idea I need to corral my childrens’ papers and art. I created a few designs for this issue but one of my faves was this Father’s Day design that I’m sharing with you below. Actually…not sure why but the photo I have here, is missing the dad tag…sorry! It should be on the little safety pin! The guitar and rock sentiment are from Kim Hughes’ Supah Star set. You can find this magazine in many craft or book stores and also on-line at Paper Crafts magazine.

Home and Heart

One of my very favorite magazines is Home and Heart. It’s more of an inspiration magazine and all about the joys of home, family and friendship as well as little ways to make each day or special occasions…well, special. The photography in each issue is just stunning…I just love the concept! There are no detailed instruction lists to muddy up the photo spreads and all supply lists can be found at the back of the magazine.

The most recent issue of Home and Heart was released a couple weeks ago and is totally focused on Every Day Gift Giving. You’ll find beautiful projects to use throughout the year. You can find this magazine in local book and craft stores as well as on-line here.

Happy Candy Cane Day

jks-happy-candy-cane-day-2-copy.jpg

This project is one I was asked to create as a little gift project for Candy Cane day. Candy Cane day is December 26th and I thought this canning jar would be perfect filled with small candy canes to celebrate the occasion. You can find this project in the magazine along with some love notes I created as well. The little candy cane on this project is a Kim Hughes design by Cornish Heritage Farms. It was so quick to color in with my Copic marker and cover with dimensional glaze.

Hope you have a beautiful day!

Stamp It

Sigh………………………….

Well we’re still being held hostage by an awful stomach flu. I’m wondering when on earth this will end. I myself was more ill yesterday than I can remember being in a long time. Luckily??? I had three sick teenagers home as well who weren’t as sick as I to help out. I was just starting to feel better and then had to spend half the night up with my 2yo. So, I’m keeping this post super-short as I have limited energy and much to do.

I still haven’t seen the latest Stamp It issue from Paper Crafts Magazine but hear it is creating quite a buzz. Stampers always love to see lots of great stamping ideas. I’m hoping my copies will arrive soon as I think I deserve some time to sit down and enjoy! πŸ˜‰ If you’ve been looking for a copy of this magazine, you can order direct from Paper Crafts if that helps you out.

Four of my designs are in this issue. I’m excited to see my first CHF design in print and I’ll share that design with you today as I’m allowed to share one from each issue on my blog. I’m also pretty excited about that cherry card design on the cover. πŸ™‚ It was one of those last minute submissions that I was just having some fun with.

April Cards

Now that it’s May…I can share a few designs with you that I had published in the April edition of Cards magazine. With wedding season in the air, I thought is was a great time to share them as two of the designs are wedding cards. If you like simple… I love the white and ivory combo of the first design. I couldn’t resist tying a ribbon knot to accent the rub-on sentiment. πŸ˜‰ The second design is a pocket card and uses some fun Making Memories Textured Tape and Epoxy Embellishments. My third design is about as simple as you can get!

From the Heart…

Paper Crafts Magazine’s latest special issue has been released...Gifts from the Heart. I just love this theme as so much of paper crafting is like that. Little gifts from the heart. I love creating things to give to my loved ones. One of the designs that I have published in this magazine is a little trinket box. The box is altered with My Mind’s Eye patterned paper and heavy acrylic transparency and embellished with rub-ons and velvet ribbon. My daughter’s room is in these colors and I believe it has been spoken for when it returns. A lot of the projects I design are created with special people in mind. πŸ™‚

This latest magazine is available on craft or bookstore shelves and is also available from Paper Crafts Magazine.

I once again had the best of intentions of having a {C’est Bon} entry for you today. As we were up to midnight both Thursday and Friday working on the tile and yesterday a few of the cupboards arrived, it just didn’t happen. Life IS going to get easier, right?! πŸ™‚ In the meantime, I have a little peek at my new kitchen. Notice the tightly cropped photo! LOL The window needs trimmed and there is still construction everywhere. Some of the upper cabinets will be arriving Wednesday night and we’re hoping to get the tile grouted soon as well. Slowly but surely….. πŸ™‚

Have a wonderful day…

Home and Heart

Late Friday afternoon I was so excited to receive a few boxes of magazines and designs back from CK Media. Among those was the latest Home and Heart publication. Originally called Homegrown Hospitality for its premiere issue, the name has been changed to Home and Heart. This magazine is their second issue and is published quarterly. I had to tell you…this magazine has its own unique beautiful style. Home and Heart is a perfect title for it. Gorgeous photo spreads, recipes, ideas, tips and hand crafted designs have had me going through the magazine all weekend. While this publication has supply lists published at the back of the magazine, this publication is much more about inspiration than another how-to crafting magazine. I’m LOVING the fresh approach! Home is definitely where the heart is.

Class Reunion Invitation

jks-invitation-class-reunion.jpg

I was so excited to be contacted by an editor for Home & Heart and asked to design this Classy Class Reunion ensemble for them. The ensemble consists of an accordion photo decoration, place marker and guest favor and invitation…all designed around the theme “Now I had the time of my life”. I’ve always loved that song. πŸ™‚

Wishing you a wonderful Sunday!

Simply Saturday….a simple frame

It’s crazy busy here today with the renovation. We’re busy pouring our concrete kitchen/eating area/mudroom floor. We’ll be tiling on top once it cures. I can’t wait. This is the last HUGE job of the renovation and we’re hoping it is all downhill from here. πŸ™‚ We hope.

Today in keeping with my busy day and in keeping with Simply Saturday…I’m sharing a frame design that is published in the latest PaperCrafts magazine…. April 2008 edition. Where DO the days go?! I didn’t even realize this issue was already out but saw it on the shelves last night at the drug store. LOL They love me there! πŸ˜‰ Scanning the magazines, as with Cdn postage…I’m one of the last to get my complimentary copies. I’m sure they groan when they see me coming. You’ll be happy to know I did purchase one of the latest scrapbooking magazines so it’s all good. πŸ˜‰

Forever Frame

jks-forever-frame-2.jpg

This is a quick simple 12 x12 ” wedding frame. The emphasis of the feature was on white weddings. I added a white flourish rub-on directly onto the glass for a subtle embellishments. As you may know…I just love altering frames. This design is all about sometimes simple being all you need. πŸ™‚ Another feature of April’s PC magazine is quick and easy birthdays. I have another simple design in that as well.

I also wanted to tell you that Jacksonbelle has her new store open! This time its not on ebay but a fabulous on-line store with even more goodies for you. I hear she has in the brand new Cosmo Cricket so please…don’t buy it all before I get a chance. Check it out at Jacksonbelle Embellishments Also… for the rest of March…get 15% off of your order if you use the online code… Opening02. Have fun!

Now back to work for me….

Hope your Saturday is simply wonderful!

Edited to add…

Just can’t stay away! πŸ˜‰ I took some quick pics this morning and thought I’d share…

My back entrance just before the floor is poured…those are the in-floor heating tubes attached to the steel base that the concrete is poured on top of.
