Rainbows, snowflurries and layouts…

jks-layout-story-close.jpg

My husband came running in the house Monday night telling me to grab my camera. Now this is not an ordinary occurrence…he usually shuns the thing 😉 but after a day of rain, there was the most stunning rainbow I have seen in years.Across the road and fields of Fall wheat this rainbow was just radiant and spanned in a complete arch from side to side. There was no way to capture it with my camera as my lens is not wide-angled. Here’s one of the few pics I managed to take right before my camera battery died.

Now image my surprise this morning to wake up to everything well-blanketed with snow! Hmmmm…are those costumes for Friday night going to fit on top of snowsuits?! I totally can’t believe it because I had the boys standing out waiting for the bus for a long time. The delayed the bus by two hours. What a day!

Now as for the layout part of the post…it’s layout challenge day again.

A little peek…

A little peek into my world…..

Some digital designs for you today that I’ve created over the past couple weeks…the first two, I was just playing around trying to put my newly learned skills to practice. If you’re having trouble reading the journaling, you can click on the photos to enlarge.

Quick Tip:  Don’t be afraid to try something new! Take a class, ask a friend, search the web. Never stop growing.

Got the Map?

Every now and then a map is a good thing! They give you a little direction and a place to start. Page Maps is a great web-site with new maps each month full of great ideas. And not only do they have new page maps each month, they have card maps as well. What a great resource to inspire and get your creativity into high gear. The following page is one I created using September’s Page Maps for inspiration. I love these maps so much, I wrote a Craft Critique review on them. Want to check it out?

Bouquet

jks-bouquet-2.jpg

This layout was inspired by my two darling youngest boys. They sure know how to make a girl feel special. 😉

While some may see a handful of weeds, I see a beautiful bouquet. I truly am a lucky girl to have such handsome boys bringing me flowers. I treasure these moments.

May you find joy in the little things today!

Round and Round

Round and Round we go again! What a perfect title for a layout using some of the photos I took last Friday. We had a fabulous day with family at Canada’s Wonderland, a theme park in Toronto. I couldn’t wait to get home and print out some photos. This layout is designed by Lesley to be an 8×8 layout but can also easily be used for 12×12. If you’re starting off…an 8×8 layout size is a great place to start. The pages go together faster and you can still make them as simple or as elaborate as you like. We’d love to have you play along with today’s sketch layout challenge. You can check out the challenge deets here.

Round and Round

jks-round-and-round.jpg

I decided to stick to the original layout quite closely for this page. An 8×8 layout is smaller than I’m used to using but was a fun size to work with. The photos on this layout are actually quite small…. 1.5″ x 2″ with the larger one being 2″x3″. While I cropped and printed my images to size using Photoshop Elements, this would be a great layout to crop in on those photos that are taken far away. For my journaling…I kept it simple. Just the date and the place.

Quick Tip: If you want to add more details but don’t want them on the page…write the names etc. on the back. Future generations may not know who is who and may want to.

jks-round-and-round-side.jpg

To create my title, I simply stamped a sentiment from the Round and Round We Go Again stamp set. Along the bottom of my design, I stamped some funky circles from the same set and highlighted their centers with buttons. I wanted to create a fun page with a little distressing and attitude that my kids would like.

Quick Tip: Crop one photo a little larger than the rest to make it stand out and be your focal image.

Here’s a couple more photos from our trip to Canada’s Wonderland…

jks-canadian-flowers-at-won.jpg

My niece and Joshua with Dora…is he excited or what?! I did get one photo of some of the kids on a roller coaster in the second car from the front. As I spent most of the day in “kiddie-land”, I didn’t manage to photograph them on the newest roller coaster, the Behemoth. It’s now the largest coaster in Canada.

What’s New….

There’s a lot new! I’ve just gotten back from another long weekend at the cottage. I just love it there! We had an absolutely fabulous time and now I’m scrambling to catch up after four days away. You always pay, don’t you?! I have some fun lake pics to share with you today. I actually tried tubing yesterday…first time in 20 years!!! My son took pics of that but, of course…I’m not going to show you those ones!

Over the weekend I took some stamps, ink and my Copic Markers along with my. I’m really getting addicted to sitting down and relaxing by practicing coloring the CHF detailed image lines. I spent a few relaxing hours coloring in three of them. Haven’t had time to make a project with them yet but here’s one of my favorites, The Light of Peace from the Thomas Kinkade Line.

jks-light-of-peace-coloring.jpg

We had a ton of fabulous entries for the Cornish Heritage Farms Can You Color Design Team search. The call closed Thursday night and it has been a pleasure to go through them all. Right now it’s the hard part of the job…choosing designers from the fabulous entries. Thanks so much to those of you who applied!

Today at CHF, there’s another Scrapblocksâ„¢ release. I’ve been pestering Lisa for a like this for months and it has been worth the wait. LOVE this stamp! 6×6 inches makes it perfect for layouts, altered projects and of course, cards. No matter which the the card is orientated…this stamp works perfectly.

Stampin and Scrappin

Summer photos are always my favorite to scrapbook. The natural light, the outdoors, my kids having fun, our favorite places…. Even when its too cold to swim there’s always lots to do at the lake. I created this layout for this week’s sketch layout challenge. It’s a great sketch designed by Lesley Langdon and I know you’ll enjoy it. Play along with the challenge here. Lesley and Alli have create some gorgeous samples of this layout so be sure to check them out as well.

july-sketch-2.jpg

My design uses lots of patterned paper but if you look close…you’ll find a lot of stamping to customize the embellishments.

Enjoy. Explore.

jks-enjoy-explore-layout.jpg

Quick Tip: Make your own custom clear embellishments by stamping on CHF Clear Card Sheets and then die-cutting shapes. I used this idea to create my circle layer to add interest, follow the sketch but not cover up the paper beneath it.

jks-enjoy-explore-close.jpg

jks-enjoy-explore-bottom.jpg

To help make this layout pop…I pulled the hint of red from the patterned paper. It doesn’t matter if you don’t have red in your photos…the blues and greens of the photo match the dotted paper and help tie it all together.

Have a fabulous day! Check back in tomorrow for a fun Ways to Use it Challenge that will make you think outside the box.

O Canada

It’s July 1st and Canada Day! I want to wish all my Canadian Friends a wonderful Canada Day! We usually spend it on the beach. I think this is the first year in …hmmmmmm….almost 19 years that we haven’t! DH ended up getting yesterday off instead of today so it was a little disappointing. You know how it is when your traditions get a little mixed up! I’m going to enjoy the day with the kids at home though and hope to see some fireworks in the city instead of at the lake. Anyone else have special plans?

While you’re hopefully enjoying some beautiful warm weather, I have a cool card for you today. A fun, funky Christmas design. At Cornish Heritage Farms this month we are celebrating Christmas in July. A month long Christmas theme of Holiday releases in almost every line! Now is a great time to get started on Christmas so that you have lots of time to enjoy the season when it comes! As part of our Christmas in July theme, each day we are giving away Christmas gifts to you with each order. Now how cool is that?

Love Will Keep Us Warm

jks-love-will-keep-us-warm.jpg

Today CHF is releasing two new Scrapblocksâ„¢ that you will love to use all year round. Stamped in holiday colors, they look festive but I think they would be great for anything. I can’t wait to try out the Daisy Chain on a layout with some photos I took last week. Aside from scrapping, the large 6×6 size makes Scrapblocksâ„¢ perfect for making large square cards as well as stamping on embellishments. The mitten chipboard shape in my design was first painted with a Ranger White Paint Dauber, then stamped with the Scroll Scrapblock. The sentiment is a sneak peek of a new Kim Hughes set to be released on Thursday. My layout came from last week’s CPS sketch and the felt snowflakes, ribbon and heart brad from Creative Impressions.

A few pics from our very windy day yesterday at the beach…
