Back to School?

Anyone else thinking about back to school yet? We actually have almost another six weeks here before the kids go back but I’m starting to think ahead. It’s frightening how quickly the summer goes by. I still have a list of activities I want to do with them and of course…the lovely school shopping to do. I used to love shopping. I’m not quick sure what happened as I now dread it. One thing I do love about back to school is getting back into a better routine. If you’re thinking of school…today I have a sneak peek of a new stamp set that Becky has designed for the All Things Considered line. It’s beautiful and fun and very distinctive. I have a couple cards to share with you today. Both are thank yous…one for a teacher and the other, could suit just about anyone. School Primer goes on sale next Tuesday and I’ll have more samples for you soon!

As for the WT challenge this week…I’m taking one last week off. I had planned on posting one but we have a funeral to attend today and I didn’t want to get bogged down. Sherrie Siemens has kindly offered to post it for me and you can play along here. Thanks Sherrie!

A New Addition…

We have a new addition here at the Stainton household. We thought five kids were enough so don’t worry…not another one of those. We have a new puppy.  We lost our 13yo German Shepherd in June and we wanted another so Friday night we got a new puppy. So much for my stress-free weekend! 😉 Seriously…I think a new puppy is more work than a new baby. At least human babies stay where you put them and will wear a diaper! It’s been a long time since we had those 13 puppies born Christmas Day. Fourteen years to be precise and at that time we had their mom to help look after them. I knew it was going to be busy but by Saturday morning I was thinking, what HAVE I done?! Actually he’s really starting to settle in already and is such a smart little guy. He really is little as he’s not quite 7 weeks old. After MUCH debate, we named him Maximus. The kids are loving him and it’s been great for getting them outdoors more.

jks-max.jpg

Here he is with my 6yo. That should give you a little idea of the size. I’ll get some better pics to share soon. He’s just been a busy little guy and hard to catch a photo of!

***** It’s time for summer CHA again and I’m once again staying home. That’s a good thing with the new puppy! It’s been fun seeing the new sneak peeks so far and what I’m really looking forward to is keeping an eye on what’s going on with Craft Critique. Many of the reporters are off to check it out and they always provide great coverage. Keep your eye on Craft Critique as there will be updates there throughout the day once the fun begins!

Life is Beautiful

Here’s a quick card I put together. I’m loving this dotted Bazzil cardstock…so pretty and I still love those Jenni Bowlin 4×4 mini papers. I bought some more that arrived while I was on vacation and I can’t wait to get into them!

TK Friday

It’s Friday and time for the latest Thomas Kinkade release. Seriously…this is one of my favorite images yet! Once again it’s one of the smaller vignette sizes so it takes less time to color and is also super easy to work with on a card design. The hardest part of this project is going to be who to give it to!I kept this design nice and icy by using soft blues in cardstock and Copic markers. This image really pops when stamped in black ink…looks great. I decided to go with a more misty look for this design and tried stamping it in London Fog Memento ink. It’s a gorgeous soft blue grey and it still works great with those Copic Markers. If you’ve never tried Memento Inks…they are my favorite go-to inks now. Love them! One thing I AM looking for though is a beautiful aqua dye ink. I have the Ranger Adirondack Aqua but find it a tiny bit light for my taste. I have a nice aqua shade in chalk ink but I’d love a dye ink color. I have one requirement for it…it needs to be retailer friendly. That means something I can buy at a stamp or scrap retail store. If you’ve found one…I’d love to hear what it is. 🙂

Now I don’t usually do this but…I’m going to take the weekend off from blogging. I’ve been getting headaches all week and this week has been a wild one to say the least,  so don’t worry when I don’t show up tomorrow. I’m fine.  I just need to take a deep breath. 😉

Have a great weekend and see you Monday!

Simply Saturday…simply Kinkade

jks-winter-cottage-close.jpg

A black and white Christmas card? Well…why not?! Black and white is elegance at its best and I just love how perfectly this new Thomas Kinkade image stamps. Gorgeous! Christmas Moonlight is the next TK release at CHF and will be available next Friday. As you can see I did break down and add the smallest hint of color. I love lighting up those windows with the smallest touch of yellow. Stamping doesn’t get much simpler than this. And while I hate mass producing cards…this is one I just might be able to do.

Sunday Sailing

I love being out on the water….the whole family does. And while we don’t own a sailboat…the image of one always catches my eye. When I was a child, every few years we make the trip to Nova Scotia and Prince Edward Island. This image reminds me a little of Peggy’s Cove. We took our family a few years back. It’s so interesting to go back and see things with adult eyes and share them with your own children. It was just as beautiful as I had remembered it.

One of my son’s had his 14th birthday yesterday. As he loves boating, I thought this would be a good image to go with. It’s so hard to design for teenage boys. Sort of between boy and man. He liked it…or at least he said he did! 🙂

Sailboat Dreams

jks-sailboat-dreams.jpg

This card is all stamps are cardstock as you can see. The image is July’s Stamp of the Month at CHF and as soon as I saw it I sighed. This is going to be a classic favorite for me. The image is colored in with copic markers. Copic markers work great for a more sketchy artistic style as well as that solid cute coloring book image style you see.The trick it to hold your pen loosely and add the color more like you are painting it on rather than coloring in circles.

jks-sailboat-dreams-close.jpg

Quick Tip: To create a fading off skyline, simply add color from the horizon and flip the marker upwards until the color fades off.

Christmas in July

We’re now well into July. Doesn’t quite feel like it here yet but I’m sure it will soon. Seriously…this has to be the coolest and wettest June/July in my neck of the woods. Sandwiched between the Great Lakes, we usually get a summer full of heat and humidity. I’m enjoying working in this much better but I’d love a little warm weather in time for vacation.

Today we’re going to think cold though and have a little fun for the WT challenge…Christmas in July.  I hope you’ll have fun with the challenge, pull out some holiday stamps and get a little head-start on those creations. Check out the challenge here.

My design for today’s challenge features a new All Things Considered set designed by Becky Olsen. I love the evergreen theme of this set and the classic vintage look.

Compliments of the Season
