One simple item keeps showing up in my designs these days. I simply can’t see to help myself. In fact, many times I actually have to restrain myself from using it to keep things all looking the same.

What is it?

Twine.

Simple huh? I don’t know why it holds such a fascination. Perhaps it’s the  texture and it does go with pretty much anything. It’s super easy to tie. It’s plain and not overwhelming.

I just love it.

Wouldn’t using twine make for a fun challenge? I hope you think so. It’s Thursday so check out the challenge here.

The other day I needed a sympathy card. I love a soft natural look for them so out came the twine, the kraft cardstock and some fun canvas.

The canvas is from Prima and comes printed with a lovely fine text. I stamped and embossed a beautiful damask Hero Arts stamp onto the canvas to make a resist. The background was then spritzed with Glimmer Mist and after dry, stamped with some Hero Arts leaves.

Quick Tip: Ranger Archival inks work really well for stamping on fabric. Stamp and then heat set when done.

Supplies: kraft cardstock by Bazzill, Leaf Prints stamp set (sentiment &leaves stamps) & Speckled Elements (damask stamp) by Hero Arts, Viva Pink & Caribbean Blue Glimmer Mist by Tattered Angels, twine, printed canvas by Prima, wood embellishment by K & Company, Leaf Trinket Pins by Maya Road, Inkssentials White Gel Pen by Ranger, Jet Black Archival Ink and Crushed Olive Distress ink by Ranger

Summer is my favorite time to take photographs. We spend more time outdoors and natural light is the best for shooting photos. We put photos into albums and layouts but what about cards?

Today I thought it would be fun to create a card using a photograph. I’m excited to be back challenging you with the Ways to Use it Challenge after taking a month off. Many thanks to the wonderful guest hostesses that stepped in for me. Today I’d like to challenge you to create a paper crafting project using a photograph. Create a scrapbook page, a card or whatever else you can think of.

Find the challenge here.

If you have a photoediting program that will allow you to change up the look of your photo, play around with it. For this photograph I used some Pioneer Woman photo actions in Photoshop to get a fun vintage look. The little banner is created by stitching Cosmo Cricket Tiny Type along some knotted twine.

summer fun

I love summer long weekends and we’re enjoying just hangin’ out.

I’ve been trying to scrapbook some of last summer’s memories and take pictures of this years as well. Today’s Creative Scrapper’s Sketch is a super fun one. While it’s not officially my week to create, I thought I’d play along for fun.

I’m glad I did.

This makes me happy.

let’s get moving

This week has been just flying by. So much for lazy summer days. I guess it’s so much easier to have them when you’re the child rather than the mother. I’m looking forward to some lazy days at the cottage once hubby can get a few days off work.

It’s Thursday again and time for another Ways to Use it Challenge.  This time it’s going to be more of a Ways to MOVE it challenge. I’m challenging you to find ways t o make your cards interactive and have moving parts. I chose a rather simple idea with making moving wheels on this sweet little Hero Arts bike stamp. You might want to make it more complex. How about a pop up card? Perhaps you could have an envelope that you had to open for the sentiment. However you decide to move it, I hope you’ll play along with us today. Find the challenge here.

Let’s Catch Up

lets-catch-up.jpg

Quick Tip: To get the wheels to turn smoothly I place two tiny washers on the brad between the two paper layers.  This also pops the wheels up slightly.

Yellow

Yellow.

It’s a beautiful sunny color isn’t it? So summery and beautiful. It’s also a super popular color right now. I love the way it makes a design pop.

I find that I must be stuck in my own color rut as yellow is just never a color that I usually reach for and so I’m challenging myself to use more of it.

So what do you think? Want a yellow challenge today? If so, you’ve got it. Today’s Ways to Use it Challenge is to use yellow. I can’t wait to see what you do so play along here.

Happy Heart

My favorite yellow paper is this sweet dotted paper from the Hello Sunshine line by Lily Bee Design. These papers are happy, happy, happy and so much fun to work with.  Pairing them up with some sweet Hero Arts stamps seemed just like the thing to do. Of course, it needed a little bling too so I’ve used some Zva Creative product as well…. black crystals CR02CB1010, frame flourish CR01CB116 and the red corduroy brad BR01CB104.

Whoot for Summer

Summer vacation is finally here. As usual, with a large family we’re mostly planning on staying at the cottage or taking small day trips. That’s ok though as I have lots planned and we’ll definitely be enjoying the journey. I think beach days, splash pad visits, picnics, tubing, bonfires and bbq’s, sleeping in, lazy days, kids’ crafts, bike rides, camping in the backyard, building sand castles, play dates, sleepovers and water balloon fights sounds like a lot of fun.Whew!

I don’t often have time for too many challenges but I always find creating for fun recharges the creative “batteries”. This card was created for the Moxie Fab World I Want to Ride My Bicycle Challenge.  Fun challenge! I’m not quite sure whether this card is Moxie Fab or not but as with all creative challenges, it’s having fun that counts! I just squeaked in under the wire on this one but I’m so glad I managed it today. I had so much fun I can’t wait until the next challenge!

Looking for the Zva Creative Blog hop? Keep scrolling! It’s just below this post. 🙂

Enjoy the Journey

This darling chipboard bicycle is from the Dear Lizzy collection by American Crafts. I’ve paired it up with some fun prints from Lily Bee Design. Does this design drive you dotty? 🙂 Lots of dots and circle elements to have fun with.

The embellishments are pretty simple because of all the fun prints. Do you recognize the Zva Creative felt flowers? I’ve stitched them into little blossoms and placed them into the bicycle basket. I think I need to dust off my bike, check the tires and go for a spin. What do you think? Would a basket full of flowers to match this card be overkill?

Need a little cooling down?

I thought it would be fun to share a few photos from a 50th wedding anniversary/family reunion on the weekend. A couple of my boys and their cousins managed to get into the splash pad fully clothed WITH shoes BEFORE family pictures.  They had a blast! lol I’m wondering what the official photos look like though!

So. What do you have planned for your summer?

Hope it’s a blast!

silk and roses

ribbon.

It’s gorgeous isn’t it? I love all kinds as it can really change up the look just by changing the ribbon.

I love plain ribbon. Dotted ribbon. Gingham ribbon always makes me happy. Sheer ribbon. Lacey ribbon. And oh that gorgeous silk ribbon! I think it just may be my favorite of them all.

Today for the Ways to Use it Challenge, I’m challenging you to pull out your ribbon and show us some great ways to …well, use it. I hope you’ll join us here.

silk-ribbon-roses-card.jpg

I’ve had this silk flower idea on my brain for a while. Do you ever have ideas that you just don’t seem to get around to? Today seemed like a great day for a ribbon challenge and also to have fun with this idea.

silk-ribbon-rose-detail.jpg

The silk ribbon flower is created by twisting silk ribbon and adhering it with a glue gun. It looks harder than it really is. Seriously easy. The green “leaves” are just some celery silk ribbon tied in a bow and placed under the rose. I used Mauve Silk Ribbon for this project.

Supplies: silk ribbon by May Arts,  cardstock by Bazzill, Seaside Retreat 6×6 paper pad by Webster’s Pages, Basic Manilla 6×6 paper pad by Basic Grey, Wood Grain Backgrounder stamp by CHF, Earth Flowers, & Just Find Me stamps by Hero Arts, Brushed Corduroy and Tumbled Glass Distress Ink and Jet Black Archival Ink by Ranger, Tiny Attacher by Advantus, hot glue gun, Pearl Trinket pins by Maya Road, twine
