Wonderful Wood

Everywhere you look these days, wood embellishments seem to be popping up as a hot trend. I hope it continues for a good long time as I just can’t get enough of them.

Today I’m sharing this fun card in the CLASSroom. I hope you’ll join me!

Have a fabulous weekend!

cozy love

I’ve been telling myself over and over that I need to find the time to have some more creative fun. For me, challenges are a great way to do that. Moxie Fab World is always a great place to be inspired and challenged so I headed over for peek between my morning coffee and throwing in the laundry and getting down to my growing to do list. Why not procrastinate a little longer, right? I’m glad I did as I’m much more inspired to get on with my day.

This is my interpretation of the MFW trigger. The warmth of the wood and velvet mixed with the beautiful brown, cream and rich red color scheme drew me in.

This would actually have worked well for a holiday card but I thought I’d go with more of a subtle love theme.

And here’s the beautiful inspiration photo from Moxie Fab World. I’ve linked this design to the challenge. Pop over to Moxie Fab World for some inspiration and to play along.

feels like flurries

Winter is just around the corner and it certainly feels like it. I was amazed to see the quick decor change in the stores yesterday from Halloween to Christmas. Here in Canada we’ve already celebrated Thanksgiving so theme-wise, everyone seems to be ready to gear up for the holiday season.

Inspired by the drop in temperature and the latest CASE Study Blog challenge #115, I’ve created a quick design to share with you today.

I was inspired by the beautiful elegance of the inspiration design and the use of white against a lovely gradient of color. I had some paint chips sitting on my computer desk while I looked at the challenge and decided that they would make a fun and unique spin on a gradient. For this design the gradient goes both vertically and horizontally. The hues work from light towards darker on a vertical line and horizontally, the hues are desaturated as they go along. The sentiment is a lovely rub-on from American Crafts.

Happy creating!

the time of your life

Mini albums are one of my favourite ways to scrapbook. The cuteness factor is part of the attraction. All things small are cute. (except bugs! but let’s forget about those!) I also love small projects as they quick to put together. Let’s face it. We all have a limited amount of time for crafting so making things doable is a big plus. Journaling is also not my forte and as there’s not much space, well, that’s just fine with me if I have to keep it short and sweet.

Today’s project is a mini album that I’ve created as a gift. The interesting thing about it is that it’s not quite complete.

See? No photos! There’s a reason for that.

I created this tiny album as a gift for my daughter. I’m leaving that part up to her.

She needs to take the photos. She needs make the memories.

As you know if you’ve been reading my ramblings, she’s off at university working on her nursing degree. I know that it’s hard work but I also know that these are some of the best times of her life and I want her to remember that.

And so, to my dear girl, I hope you can cherish these days, make some wonderful memories and I hope you have the time of your life.

This project was also created for a Maya Road and Jillibean Soup blog swap. I’m on the blog today with more photos and details on this album. Be sure to check out this week’s projects while you are there as they are beyond stunning. There’s also a great prize up for grab’s so make sure you check out the details here.

Thanks for stopping by!

more texture

Right now I’m stuck on texture. It’s always interesting to have somethign in particular you are focused on when designing and of late, that has been texture. In particular I’m loving the corrugated Kraft paper. It’s so interesting for a neutral. It’s linear and textured and it goes with pretty much anything.

So how about pairing it up with an unusual combo of some silver glitter and leaves?

I hope everyone is managing to stay safe, warm and dry in this crazy weather. It’s crazy windy and wet even here in Ontario and I can only imagine how it would be on the East Coast.

Take care!

Reflections

Crime tape, pumpkins, spiderwebs and all kinds of ghoulish decor are popping up in the neighbourhood. With Halloween around the corner, I thought I’d create a fun Halloween card design for today’s post in the CLASSroom.

I’ve also tried out a really great new product that I’m really excited about. Stop by the CLASSroom and join me for more photos and the tutorial.

Have a fabulous weekend!

case study no. 4

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again…

There’s nothing quite like a challenge to get your creativity going.

Being the October Muse this month for the CASE Study Challenge Blog has been an honour, so much fun and a real blessing in jump starting my love of crafting again. This is my last week to play along with the design team but I believe I’ll be playing along in the future as I find the time. It’s such a great challenge as the sky is the limit. One of the things I’ve been so impressed with it seeing all the unique designs that are created each week in so many different style. Now that’s impressive and very inspiring.

Today’s inspiration design can be found here. You’ll see that I jumped away from the layout for inspiration and focused on texture and corrugated cardstock. My original design was a different style, much cleaner but I thought a more shabby style would play up well with all that texture.

Quick Tip: Highlight textures by brushing with Distress Crackle Paint.

This stunning butterfly was the first piece I picked out to work with on this design. It was sitting on my desk just begging to be used and I thought that it’s subtle white color and lovely raised design would work well with a textural design. I used a hot glue gun to adhere it to the design for a firm bond.
