While some watercolor techniques are a gorgeous combination of color and skill, today I thought I’d share a technique I haven’t done in the longest time. It’s so super simple that I seem to forget about it at times and that’s a shame as it’s still pretty and super quick.
This new Saturday Evening Post Fly Fishing stamp looks gorgeous colored or simply stamped but for my design, I thought I’d play up on the water theme and use this watercolor technique to add a little subtle shading to the design. To do this…simply stamp your image in DYE ink. Dye ink is waterbased and will run when wet. In this case…that’s a GOOD thing! 😉 Using a wet waterbrush or watercolor brush, simply dampen the image and pull the color to where you want it. In this case, I added some shading to the pants and jacket as well as the water.

Because I wanted to add keep the entire line in the panel, it left my image with a lot of white space. Stamping the sentiment in that space as well as masking the image and then stamping the Vintage Ledge Scrapblockâ„¢ filled in the area but still gave a nice look.
Now I’m off to get ready for a pile of 6 year olds arriving tonight for the birthday party. Wish me luck!
