my girl

Finding the time to scrapbook favorite photos and record special events is something I love to do. When I recently ordered a the beautiful February kit from Up the Street Scrapbooking, I didn’t really know what I was going to do with it. It was so pretty though, I just had to have it. I always adore working with Tara’s kits. “My Shabby Valentine” is still available at Up the Street and this layout seemed to just put itself together. I love it when designing goes easy like that!
ma jolie fleur

This layout translates “my pretty flower”. Using the French just sounds so pretty and seemed to go with the romantic feel of this layout. My daughter is named after a flower and that’s where the title inspiration came from. I took these photos of my beautiful girl last Friday night before she left for her Prom dinner.

You may notice that my photos have a vintage look to them to match the style of the layout. Kimberly Crawford recently tuned me into MCP Actions and I’ve become an addict as I love the different looks you can achieve so easily. If you’re new to photo actions, they are like a preprogrammed setting that you can run on your photos to edit them into various looks. They really ramp up your photos and make them look much more professional. Photo Actions are run with Photoshop or Photoshop Elements programs. Make sure you look into what you are purchasing as most actions only run in Photoshop. For these two photos I’ve used the MCP Throwback Vintage action from the Quickie Collection™ Photoshop Actions Action Set.

Sometimes it’s all about the details. Above I’ve distressed a little flower and placed it in a tiny Melissa Frances frame.

Wishing you a fabulous weekend!

all my love

Spring finally arrived this weekend with an absolutely gorgeous day on Saturday. It was just in time for Easter and it felt so good to be outdoors without a coat again. Today is Easter Monday. Not quite sure  what that is but here in Canada it’s a school holiday. We’re not complaining. Hubby has to work but the rest of us plan to have a relaxing day together. Nice!

I’m totally into misting these days as you can see. Mr. Huey’s Calico White mist by Studio is my absolute fave as it goes with everything. I particularly adore it on kraft.

Today I’m sharing my final Up the Street Project from the March/April kit. Cards are fabulous for using up all those leftover bits and pieces after you create a layout.

My favorite thing about this card is the Thickers accents in the punched scallops of the Maya Road envelope. I never use up those sticker dots and this is a great way to do so. Apply the dots when the envelope is closed and center in each punched hole. You’ll still see them when you open the envelope.

Hugs,

family ties

Family is so very near and dear to my heart. I’ve spend the past 20 plus years at home as a stay at home mom. Some days, I must admit, I’ve totally had it but I know it’s one of the most important things I do with my life.
Last November I was so thrilled to actually get this photo of my children all together. When you have a large family with many different work schedules, trying to plan a photo shoot is nigh unto impossible. This year my goal is to get one with all 7 of us in it. Should be interesting!

My Family

I created this layout with my March/April Up the Street Scrapbooking Kit. There are still some available if you’re interested. This layout is part of a misting challenge at Up the Street. Misting is so hot right now and I just love altering paper with the sprays.

Quick Tip: Misting embossed cardstock really highlights the beautiful texture of the paper.

Thanks for stopping by!

Wishing you a blessed Easter!

so much more

“so much more delightful than you know”

Don’t you just love that? That’s how I feel about my kids and so that journaling die cut was all I needed to inspire me to get creating.

This layout also comes as part of a challenge…

This project uses the latest Up the Street Scrapbooking kit and is also a challenge for you. If you’re like me you love die cut patterned paper but sometimes it is so pretty, it’s just hard to cut. I hope you’ll be inspired to try cutting into it and having some fun. Check out the challenge here.

So Delightful

We had such a great time on our family vacation in Florida. We loved every minute but the best thing was sharing the adventures and time with my children. I was so proud of how well they all got along and behaved throughout the trip. Yes the drive was long. Long, long, long! Over 21 hours to be exact and we drove straight through. We also had a wide variety of ages and personalities to work with. So while I could scrap fun moments and pictures of gators and palm trees, beaches and boats, this layout focuses on a sweet moment between siblings. Love you guys!

This little birdie just may be my new favorite die. Who would have thought I’d get so addicted to die cutting?!

Isn’t this a darling little button card by My Mind’s Eye. It’s part of the kit and while the buttons are gorgeous, I just couldn’t bear to take them off the original card. It’s sanded and tied with twine to make an instant embellishment.

And finally, the journaling. I wish I had bettering printing and handwriting! Oh well…it’s the thought that counts, right?

Enjoy your day!

I wish

i wish i had more time.
i wish it felt like spring.
i wish i didn’t procrastinate.
i wish i always knew the best thing to do.
i wish i were thinner.
i wish a good friend lived closer.

lots of wishes. of course i have more and i’m sure you do to. some of them i can’t do anything about and some  of them i can.

so now is the time to stop wishing and for me to start doing. it should be an interesting process!

this card uses the new Up the Street Scrapbooking kit. love it!

this prima flower (part of the kit too) is so pretty but to make it tie into this design better, i colored the center with a copic marker. remember how i said i saved some of the prima bling? this is the rest of it.

i am seriously lovin this kit. i can’t wait to share the next project i made in a few days. stay tuned!

wishing you a beautiful day!

my boy

Taking photos, especially of kids, can be a bit of a hit and miss adventure. With the advent of digital photography, it makes it so much easier to take a good picture. You can keep shooting and shooting until you get a good shot. Yes, it’s still tricky at times but I love not wasting film.

Last week I was going through some photos I took last November and came across this one of child number four. Love it! I printed it out so that I’d scrap it next.

Lucky me…I picked up the latest Up the Street Scrapbooking kit on Tuesday and the colors worked perfectly. It’s a fairly simple design to keep the focus on the photo.

My Benjamin

Do you see the white mist?! It’s Mr. Huey’s Calico White Color Mist. I saw this on a blog (sorry can’t remember where) and just had to have it. Of course, everywhere I looked it was all sold out. I was so excited to see that Tara has it in stock at Up the Street. It’s beautiful and subtle and I think I have a new product crush. Stay tuned. 😉

How about this lace/rhinestone embellishment for stunning? It’s part of the kit and I’ve saved a piece for another project too. That’s on my to do list for today.

Finally…the banner and the journaling. I’ve gotten over my fear of handwriting on my page. I rarely do anything else now. To create the banner…I saved the one inch strip of kraft cardstock that I cut off before matting the kraft with the red cardstock. Waste not, want not and all that! To make it stand out, it’s stamped with the Happy stamp from the Dictionary stamp set by Hero Arts.

Enjoy the day!

so fab & a blog hop

Hi! Thanks for joining me today! Are you ready for a fun blog hop?

I’m super excited to be part of a super talented team for Up the Street Scrapbooking. Up the Street has paper crafting kits each much that I look forward to using each and every time. Tara does an amazing job of putting together product that takes all the guesswork out of what goes with what. Love, love, love it!

Today I have a tutorial to share with you using bits and pieces of a past kit or two. Keep reading too as there is a giveaway today that  you’ll love. The March kit is almost here as well so stay tuned for some samples from that soon! I think it is…

So Fab

I was so excited to get artsy and have some fun with this layout. In one of the Up the Street Kits, there was this great Prima transparency. I’ve been saving it to do something special with it and it just seemed like the time to finally get to it.

Painting on the back of transparencies is a great way to add an artistic touch, as well as add color and layers of interest. Simply flip over the transparency and loosely paint the back of the transparency with acrylic paint. You don’t want it to be too precise or you’ll loose the painterly look. You can allow it to dry first if you wish but I placed mine right onto the patterned paper while wet. The acrylic paint will adhere right to the paper eliminating the need for adhesive.

Here’s what it looks like flipped back to the right side and placed onto my patterned paper. Super easy and fun.

I’ve used bits and pieces left over from quite a few Up the Street Scrapbooking kits to put together this layout. A Maya Road envelope holds the photo and the beautiful flowers are misted with Glimmer Mist. I am SO into blue and green these days. It’s seriously time for spring!

This photo is a detail shot of the painted transparency.

Finally, the title is a sticker from yet another kit that I’ve adhered to the transparency and then added in some permanent marker to highlight.

So what do you think of this Shabby Valentine kit?!

Gorgeous, huh? It’s the February Up the Street Scrapbooking kit and Tara has one to giveaway. Simply comment on my blog for a chance to win. Comment on the other blogs in hop as well for extra chances!

Next up on the blog hop is my uber-talented friend Lesley Langdon! I can’t wait to see what she’s come up with as it’s bound to be fabulous. Make sure you stop there next!
