Made My Day

Quick Tip: Nestability dies make great shaped cards. Just make sure that at least an inch of the fold does not get die cut with the die.

Here’s the colors I used.

a little bit of sunshine – sketch 61

I was a little nervous using this week’s Card Patterns sketch. I’m used to designing with a few more layers to be sure. I’m really thrilled with how it turned out though. Some of my favorite paper and a little creativity made it work. This week is sketch 61 and is sponsored by Limelights. I hope you’ll join us this week! Here’s the link.

My first thought when seeing this sketch was to add a piece of patterned paper or wide lace where the black part of the sketch was. Totally fine but I thought I’d try for something a little more original. I love taking a layer down instead of up for a change and decided to tear away a strip to reveal and inner paper. The edges were curled up by hand. Totally an accident but it made my day…when the paper was flipped over (it’s two sides of the same paper) the stripes lined up perfectly. Love that! And I am totally in love with Jillibean Soup!

miss u

I’ve been missing some time in my craft room with this crazy week. Today I did manage to get back in there and am doing a major tidy up. It needs that every few weeks so that I can work. I do try to clean up as I go but it’s hard to get everything away in the right spots before starting the next project. I’m hoping to get time to scrapbook later on, I’m feeling a major withdrawal.

Today I have another Card Patterns sketch to share with you. I love this one and I know I’ll be coming back to it again. You can play along with us here. I’ve donated three Scrapblocks for this week’s giveaway so you may be the lucky winner.

For my take on the sketch I substituted a huge felt flower for the circular layer. I bought it a couple years ago at Scrapfest but can’t remember the manufacturer. Sorry! The fun papers and die cuts are from October Afternoon.

Quick Tip: Don’t be afraid to get creative and put your own spin on a sketch. It doesn’t have to be exact.

Have a creative weekend!

time 4 sketch 59

Time for another Card Patterns sketch. Sketch 59 is a great basic sketch and there are just so many possibilities for it. I’ve turned it on it’s side and create a card with some simple stitching and some darling Hero Arts stamps. This week Card Patterns is being sponsored by Hero Arts again. Play along for a chanceto win a guest designer spot and one participant with be randomly drawn to win a Hero Arts Have a Donut 4×6 clear stamp set.

I’m totally going nuts for the Dear Lizzy fabric paper by American Crafts. As you can see you can stamp on it and I’ve frayed the edges a little with my scissors to get a more fabric look.

The flower image is stamped and then colored with Copics. I went over the lines with a darker tone to add depth to the plaid.

Happy Easter

Another Card Patterns sketch here today and I thought these pretty daffodils would be perfect for Easter. I adore daffodils. Of course as I have a very limited green thumb, anything so bright and cheery that comes up each year with little work gets high marks in my book.

Sketch 58 is a fun and unique sketch…

Join us for the sketch challenge this week here.  There is always two chances to win. One designer is chosen to be featured as our guest designer next week and another random participant will win our sponsored prize. This week Card Patterns is sponsored by Prairie Fairy Digital Stamps who is giving away 5 digital images of choice to the randomly drawn winner.

Have a beautiful day,

sketch 57, thanks for the hospitality

It’s that time of the week again. Time for another Card Patterns sketch. I had fun putting my own spin on this sketch and making it into a window card. Sketch 57 is sponsored this week by Hero Arts. This Mi Casa set is just darling and I was impressed with how well the clear stamps inked and stamped. The tree and the house in this are separate images and I masked the house so that the tree would disappear behind it.

Thanks for the Hospitality

sketch57.jpg

To put a fun spin on the sketch, I turned to oval section into a window instead of layering up. As you can see the image was stamped onto patterned paper, colored, die cut and then popped up on the inside of the card with dimensional foam adhesive.

Quick Tip: Most dies will cut a few layers out with one pass. Try it out on a sample before committing to your card.

Enjoy your day!

sketch 56, say it with stickers

Sketch 56 is a fun, fun sketch that I’ll definitely be using again. Love those curves! I was excited to try out these stickers by SRM Stickers as they are the sponsor this week at Card Patterns. Seriously great stickers. As you can see I definitely had fun using them and the sentiments on each sheet coordinate so well together. Make sure you comment on the sketch 56 post for a chance to win a generous prize package from SRM (believe me…they are super generous!) and play along for a chance to be a guest designer for Card Patterns.

party time

To create the sticker overlay background, I laid  strips of stickers across the striped Cosmo Cricket Garden Variety paper. I love how it kind of makes my own personalized patterned paper. And don’t you just love the bright summery colors of Garden Variety? This line just makes me smile.

To create the main flowers and circles for this design, I’ve die cut patterned paper and Craft-a-Board to create a very sturdy and dimensional design.

Quick Tip: To get the curve on the paper for this sketch, draw freehand with a pencil until you get a curve you like. If you use a light hand with a pencil, it should be easy to erase. You can also use a flexible curve design tool. You should be able to find one in most art or drafting supply stores. I’ll admit to using the first suggestion as I was too lazy to go searching for mine.

Supply List: kraft cardstock by Bazzill, Garden Variety 6×6 paper pad and Ready Set Chip Sheet by Cosmo Cricket,  twine, twill tape by May Arts, sewing machine, Circle nestability Dies and Nested Dahlia  by Spellbinders

Have a sweet day!
