Using it Up

One of my many flaws is hanging on to things for the perfect project. That never seems to come and then I have drawers of beautiful things that are no longer new product. This layout I mixed up a lot of different items I’ve been hoarding and instead, got them on a page and just enjoyed using them. It’s a bit of a wild mix but I think it works as this layout is about the wild riot of color of the springtime. I’m longing for a hit of color in the snowy white palette I seem from my window.

This is another of my 30 in 30 layouts and after a weekend off, I’m back on track. Using a sketch is a great way to get started and for this layout I’ve used Creative Scrappers sketch # 89. I’ve flipped it from left to right to work better with the photo and papers I wanted to use.

some smiles

oh how I love smiles.

Especially the ones on my childrens’ faces. Going through my photo files the other day, I came across these photos from the cottage last spring. I’m totally longing for that time of year again. I was taking an on-line portrait photography class at the time and playing around with some depth of field. Lucky for me I actually managed to find one willing participant that day. The funny thing is that now that I’m back to scrapbooking, I just may have more willing models. My teenagers are iffy at best but my two little guys are getting very competitive over who gets the most layouts made of them.

This layout uses last week’s Creative Scrappers sketch #88. I love the sketch but I’m not quite happy with how this layout came together. I’m learning though!

 Thanks for stopping by!

Snow

I’m having a blast with my 30 in 30 challenge. So much so that I’m actually ahead of the game! You should see my studio though…it looks like a tornado hit it. One good thing is that I have a place for everything and it will clean up fairly quickly. That’s just one of many items on my to do list today.

snow fun

This layout uses photos I took last Saturday. The little boys were having a blast. We’ll be staying instead today though…the thermometer is reading -20°C. A little too cold for my taste.

Quick Tip: Layer chipboard over and around photos. The swirl chipboard on the bottom left “frames” the photo and draws attention to the sweet expression and my little guy’s face.

Supply List: cardstock by Bazzill, patterned paper by Fancy Pants Designs & Basic Grey, Chipboard by Cosmo Cricket, Thickers by American Crafts, Wild Card by October Afternoon, Distress Stickles by Ranger

Have a wonderful Saturday! Make some memories!

my space

Thanks so much for the sweet response to my scrapbooking challenge post yesterday. I’m never quite sure how readers are going to take a different crafting approach. I really appreciate all the encouragement. I have to say…now that I’m back at scrapping a little, I’m loving it. It’s actually full circle for me to where I started paper crafting a decade ago. Styles, products and my take on it have certainly changed as the years have passed.

This layout is #2  in my 30 in 30 challenge. I’m not quite as thrilled with this layout but that’s OK. It’s all about enjoying the process and learning as you go. I’m still working on getting good photos of my layouts. It’s actually quite different from shooting cards and I’m continually frustrated that they look much better in person.

You can see a few of the photos from my new room…yes it is FINALLY finished!!!! If you want to check out all the photos and details, I’ve blogged about it here…my creative space. I hope you’ll stop by for a visit.

the challenge…

My friend Becky issued me a challenge the other day. I’d been whining, I admit it, how I had planned to do more scrapping but never seemed to get around to it. Her solution: scrap a page a day.

Yikes. YIKES!

Daunting to be sure. I can’t do that.

But I kept thinking. And thinking. And thinking.

And I accept.

I’m going to give it a whirl. For the next 30 days. And maybe even longer.

We’ll see.

And now that the decision is made. I’m excited.

So much so that I couldn’t wait to get started. Here’s number one…

Vibrant

P.S. Just I case you think you’ll be inundated with layouts…I won’t be sharing them all every day. I’ll keep you  apprised of how I’m doing and share a few but I’ll still be posting cards and other paper crafting.

Quick Tip: Use rub-ons  as a layer instead of paper to put an interesting spin on your sketch.

Supply List: cardstock by Bazzill Basics, bling by Prima, flowers and page pebble by Prima, Thickers by American Crafts, sewing machine, circle cutter by EK Success, metal tag by Making Memories, rub-ons by Pink Paislee, dymo label maker, Bird and Journaling Sheer by Maya Road

I’m calling this my 30 in 30 challenge. I’m looking forward to the creative journey. For this layout, I used a Creative Scrappers sketch to get started.

Do you have a creative challenge you’ve been meaning to work on? I’d love to hear about it!

Happy creating!
