It’s In the Bag

It’s the thought that counts when it comes to gift giving, isn’t it? Just saying that you care and you took the time to share. While I’m not quite sure that I buy into “presentation is everything”, it sure does add a nice touch.

I love making altered gift bags. They are really quick and fun to create and add that special touch to a gift that says you care.

This fun gift uses the gorgeous Crate Paper Restoration line and was part of a Sweet 16 ensemble I create for the March/April issue of Paper Crafts Magazine. I was actually going to share the banner from this set but sigh, the original photo isn’t the best and my poor banner met its demise in the craft room flood.

Quick Tip: Keep a stash of white and kraft gift bags on hand to quickly & easily alter when the need arises.

It’s the last day of March Break here and we’ve had a quiet but fun week with the kids. I guess quiet is a relative term. It hasn’t exactly been quiet per se, but rather, we didn’t plan much. It’s always nice to take it easy. Tonight we’re having friends over and tomorrow we’re off to the sugar bush. Pancakes and real maple syrup. I can’t wait!

6 sketches & a digital file

Do you like sketches?  If so, I thought I’d share the sketches that I drew up for the previous 6 Mitten Weather cards. You can use them to create Christmas cards or get creative and put your own spin on the sketches.

Another thing I have to share with you today is the digital file from my Noel King Card published in the Nov/Dec issue of Paper Crafts magazine. this card can be found on page 47. I’ve had a few requests on how to do this so I’ll share the basics on how I created it. For those of you who don’t want to bother with creating it yourself, you’re welcome to download the version below for printing off yourself.

To create this text art you’ll need to use Photoshop, Photoshop Elements or another graphics program. I created mine in PSE and here are the basic steps…

  • create a new 4×4 inch blank file at 300 dpi
  • go to view and then select grid to help you layout the project
  • creating a separate text layer for each main letter spell out N, O, E, L and arrange them into a square shape. add color as desired
  • Simplify or rasterize layers so that you can widen letters to form a square
  • add smaller type layers for the black sentiment additions
  • save and print as desired

card creations favorite occasions

I love special occasions and they are always better with a special card to say you care. The new Paper Crafts special issue Card Creations: Favorite Occasions was released last week and it is a super fabulous issue. I was so excited to get my artist copy and have sat down to enjoy it many times in the past week. Clever cards, cute cards, beautiful cards, trendy cards…it’s all there and worth having on hand for inspiration. If you’re looking for a copy you can find it at your local craft or bookstore or at the link above.

I was thrilled to have quite a few projects in this issue and have one to share with you today. It combines my love of doilies, twine, text, flowers, stitching and Lily Bee Design papers.

a little holiday spirit

I know it’s not even Halloween yet, but is anyone ready for a little holiday spirit?

I always find the key to enjoying the Christmas season is starting to prepare early. It can be such a wonderful but chaotic time! I’m happy to say that I’ve started my Christmas shopping. A little at a time is also easier on the budget.

I’m excited to have the latest issue of Paper Crafts Magazine, November/December 2010, on my desk to get some holiday ideas spinning. There are some really fabulous ideas! One of the columns, Designer Challenge, is all about using non-holiday product to create your holiday cards. Love the ideas here! So fun and they use things you may already have on hand.

I had a few fun cards picked up for this column and have one of them to share with you today. All you need is some cardstock, a computer and a few accents.

Paper Crafts Fall

I can’t believe how quickly the days fly by. We’ve finally got into the hang of a new school year routine. My daughter has started her highschool co-op program at the hospital and I’m busy being the stay at home mom who is rarely home but rather being chauffeur.

Today I thought I’d share one of my paper craft projects that was published in the September/October issue of Paper Crafts Magazine.

I’ve used some fun October Afternoon papers to create this mini card and gift box. Just the box is in the magazine issue but I thought I’d share both here in case it inspired someone.

Quick Tip: Mini projects are fast and cute and make great gifts when you are pressed for time.

Vintage Holiday

I bought my first Christmas present the other day. Feels good to get started on my very long list. I love getting started early as it makes the whirlwind season so much more enjoyable if you can get most of the errands and projects done ahead of time.

The new Holiday Cards and More issue from Paper Crafts has just been released and I can’t wait to get my hands on it. The sneaks peeks I’ve seen so far are jaw dropping for sure! Today my card is one published in this issue. I love creating a vintage collage and Christmas vintage is one of my favorites. It makes me wish for simpler days.

Do you know that old saying, Christmas in July? Well, today I have a little Christmas in July inspiration to share with you.

You may have noticed I’ve missed a few days that I don’t usually here on my blog. Did you miss me? In between summer activities and migraines, things have just been a little topsy turvy here. I thought that sharing one of my Card Style projects would be the perfect solution in giving me something to share and say hello while I work on getting back on track.

Card Style is the latest Paper Crafts Special Publication and today’s project is one of the projects I had published in this magazine. If you haven’t seen it yet…it’s fabulous and definitely a keeper. You can find Card Style at your local scrap or book stores or on-line direct from Paper Crafts Magazine.

Surprise, surprise (wink), all my designs were for the Shabby Chic/vintage category and this festive Webster’s Pages creation combines many of my favorite things.
