sweet baby mini canvas

Seriously.

Where DOES the time go? I’m always shocked at how quickly it passes.

Take today’s project for instance. I created it a year ago and still haven’t shared it. What’s up with that?!

So finally….here it is…

I love altering little canvases and I decided to do a little experimenting on this one. In my stash I had this great white crochet doily and I decided to experiment with covering the canvas with it.

The canvas is pre-primed so I didn’t need to worry about it but I wanted the doily stiff and able to take color. Gesso to the rescue. Gesso is a primer that is used on difficult surfaces for painting, mixed media and altered art projects.  I secured the doily at the back of the canvas and then painted my gesso on top of the doily. This also helps adhere it to the canvas. You want to saturate it well and then allow it to dry naturally. This will take a while as the doily needs quite a saturation of Gesso.

Once it’s dry, you can add any kind of color that you want. I’ve misted mine here with Glimmer Mist. The Gesso holds the medium well.

Add in a little trinket frame that is pinned on and some ribbon and you have a really sweet baby canvas to decorate with.
