Angled Interest

First of all, thank you all so much for all the lovely birthday wishes yesterday. Hearing from you made my day and I had a wonderful one at that. A little “me” time,a little creating, some retail therapy, some beautiful flowers and an evening with some sweet friends made it a very special day.

So often we design around squares and rectangles for a very angular design. Lately I’ve been playing around with diagonal lines to shake things up a little. Diagonals are great as they help move the eye through the design and really, you don’t need any special products to incorporate them into your work. Today I’d like to challenge you to give it a whirl and share how you use diagonals in your work. It may be stripes, a diagonal plaid, ribbons etc. but find a way to incorporate something on a 45° angle (or any angle)to take your creativity into a new direction. I hope you’ll play along. Here’s the challenge link.

Today I decided to piece together some Material Girl patterned paper on the angle and then emboss on top of it. I love this fun Birdcage stamp by Hero Arts. I’m totally into Hero Arts these days.  If you love Hero Arts, you may be interested to hear that Ellen has some great Hero Hues information on her blog today and also a sale on Hero Arts this week. You can find the details here.

Now I will admit, I thought I had used regular black embossing powder but instead had pulled out Embossing Puffs. I’ll watch better next time as regular embossing powder does give a crisper image.

Quick Tip: Adhere the patterned paper tightly together edge to edge. Avoid overlapping as it may cause places to be un-inked when stamped on leaving you with breaks in the image.
