Streams

I love water. There’s something so soothing about it. For seven years we lived near one of the Great Lakes and I really do miss the sound of the water. Each summer, we do spend as much time as possible at the lake though. Nothing quite like the waves to rock you to sleep.

While this design doesn’t have a lake, it does have a beautiful stream. The new Thomas Kinkade Streams of Living Water stamp is released today from Cornish Heritage Farms. I used an older Thomas Kinkade sentiment with this design, Always on my Mind…I love how you can use different ones with different images.

Always on my Mind {click to enlarge}

jks-always.jpg

The card reads….You are always on my mind….and in my heart and prayers. Inside sentiment is computer generated. I thought this would make a nice card for someone going through difficult times. I’m sure you know someone. We all do. It’s nice to be able to uplift someone by taking the time to create a card and let them know we care.

This design is colored with my Copic markers. This design in particular is very easy to color as it is more of a distance view. Check out the other samples our design team has created for some gorgeous ideas!

Yuummmmmmmmmmmm…..a challenge

Mmmmmmmmmmmm…..chocolate! I love chocolate! It definitely is my downfall! Kim suggested a favorite food inspired challenge for today’s challenge and I knew right away that my design would be brown, brown, brown. I honestly wasn’t sure how it would turn out! While I love using brown in my designs, it’s not often that I would make an all-brown design. It’s a bit of a hodgepodge as I love collecting brown embellies but I had a LOT of fun creating it! It’s hard to believe that for years…I hated the color brown. I think perhaps it had something to do with having an overload of it being a child of the 70s?!

Inspire

jks-chocolate-inspiration.jpg

There is actually more stamping on this design than you see at first glance. I loved making my own “patterned” paper by stamping two Scrapblocks™ on this design…Vintage Ledger and Pindot. I’m just going crazy over this Big Inspiration word set released this month. I just want to stamp it on everything! Tucked into the Making Memories glitter chipboard frame, I stamped a flower from Kim’s Silhouette Blooms 2 set and added some Stickles to the flower centers.

Other fun brown details to find…. Prima flowers and Prima tape, KI Memories die-cut paper and some Creative Impressions ribbon and brad.

Quick Tip: When creating a monochromatic design…use lots of different textures to provide interest in the design.

Kristine, Lesley, Sherrie, Val & Dawn have worked up some fun designs for this challenge as well. Be sure to check them out! Want to play along? What’s your favorite food? We’d love to see what it is and how it inspires you! Check out the details here.

Here’s one of my favorite chocolate recipes. You can also find some of my other favorite recipes if you click on the recipe category here on my blog.

Chocolate Cheesecake

1.5 cups Crushed Oreo Crumbs

2 tbsp. Butter melted

3 pkg Cream Cheese

1 cup sugar

1 tsp vanilla

8 squares of semi-sweet chocolate, melted and cooled slightly

3 eggs

Heat oven to 325°F. Mix cookie crumbs and butter, press firmly onto bottom of 9-inch springform pan. Beat cream cheese, sugar and vanilla in large bowl with electric mixer until well blended. Add chocolate; mix well. Add eggs one at a time, mixing on low speed after each addition until well blended. Pour over crust. Bake 45 to 50 minutes until almost set. Run knife around rim of pan to loosen cake. Cool before removing sides of pan. Chill at least 4 hours or overnight. Enjoy!

He Leads Me…

I wanted to share this new Thomas Kinkade design with you today…thought it would make a nice Sunday entry. I just love this peaceful image and beautiful scripture sentiment. While thinking about how to start this project, I decided to go with a soft blue color scheme to work with the peaceful look and the water part of the sentiment. After stamping a few images, I was trying to decide my layout for this design…how would I fit that sentiment on the design? I was so excited to come up with this idea. I think it’s brilliant 😉 but of course…I may be a bit biased. 🙂 This Streams of Living Water stamp will be released on Tuesday at Cornish Heritage Farms.

Still Waters Design

jks-removed-for-pub.jpg

To create this simple, faded out look, I first inked up my full image with Versamagic Chalk Ink. I then took a folded piece of tissue and lightly blotted an area, just slightly larger than my sentiment. The image was then stamped onto Simply Smooth cardstock by Prism. The blotted area still slightly showed the image and it was the perfect spot to stamp my sentiment.

The rest of the design came together quickly. Some some matting and stitching and then an embellishment I’ve been meaning to try for months. I bought a package of stick pins at Michael’s ages ago and finally pulled them out. So easy to add some beads…yes, from a long ago purchase and stored in my stash…and then adhere them with Ranger Glossy Accents. A great embellishments for this design. I think you’ll be seeing lots more of these in the future. I feel like going into mass-production!

Wishing you a beautiful day,

Julia

Simply Saturday….simply blessed

I just adore this chipboard sentiment from Scenic Route Paper Co. I am blessed. So true and yet so many times I take it for granted. I decided to create a card with this sentiment, inside reads…to have a friend like you. Pink and orange are currently one of my favorite color combos. Who would have thought it?! You would never wear them together. Or maybe you would! I just bought a new skirt for church that is brown with pumpkin and bright pink throughout the pattern. I love it! I seem to have been stuck lately in a very black wardrobe. This is sooo much more fun!

I am Blessed

jks-blessed.jpg

This is just a quick scrappy card I made for fun. It’s one of those cleaning up my room cards. I always find a lot of goodies laying around and it’s so much easier to make them into a card than put them away! 😉 About an inch was trimmed off the front right edge of the card to add the cool fringe and peek into the middle of the design. Prima flower and rhinestones from Jacksonbelle Embellishments. BTW…Lindsey has the Basic Grey Euphoria collection in stock. I just had to break down and buy some. I really needed more paper! Yah, right! If you believe that I have a bridge to sell you too! 😉 Just couldn’t resist!

Hope your day is “simply” fabulous,

Julia

A Little Change of Pace

I’ve been designing mostly around summer lately…love all the flowers and blossoms around the garden. I think it provides so much inspiration. I decided to look ahead a little and design this autumn card. Aren’t these little kritters darling? They are so much fun to color. I love the change of pace of sitting down at the dining room table and just coloring. I’ll admit it…my stamp desk is just too cluttered with accessories to color any way! 🙂 If you like to get started on your Fall designing early these stamps are for you. Here’s a tip inspired my  friend Kristine Reynolds. Kristine stamps images and then brings them along with her to color while she waits for her kids at various functions. I’ve decided to stamp a pile of images to take with me to color while I’m off at the cottage this summer. Some images, along with my Copic marker folders won’t take up much packing space but will still give me a creative outlet while there. And watch out…I’ll be whipping up those cards when I get home!

Bounty of the Season

jks-bounty-of-the-season.jpg

This darling little image is called Gourd Friends and is one of two new Tom Allen Friendly Kritter releases at CHF today. I had lots of fun coloring it with my Copic Markers and pairing it up with some My Mind’s Eye patterned paper and some stitching. I hate throwing good rick rack away, so I used the little piece leftover from my rick rack flower to add texture and to create a little scalloped border to the top of my design.

Quick Tip: When coloring with your Copic markers…be sure to lay down lots of color….the ink should show through on the back of the paper. This helps your color spread easily.

Thanks for stopping by! Have a super weekend!

Ric Rak Anyone?

Ready for another challenge?! Its Thursday and the challenge is to find Ways to Use rick rack! I love rick rack! It has such a fun look to it. You can use it like ribbon but it just seems to have a little more texture. Rick rack is perfect on layouts, vintage and retro projects as well as more streamlined projects. Don’t forget baby designs….gotta love rick rack on those too! To play along with today’s challenge, simply add rick rack to your project. It can be simple or more elaborate…just have fun! Check out the challenge here!

For my design, I was playing around with some jumbo rick rack and created a rick rack flower. It was super simple to make and I really tickled with how it turned out! 😉 My favorite rick rack is a jumbo rick rack by Creative Impressions. It comes in a variety of colors and I love its big fun look.

Rick Rack Hello

jks-ric-rak-hello.jpg

To create my flower, I simply took a length of jumbo rick rack, about 24 inches. You can trim off the excess at the end for another project. I punched out a 2″ circle and covered it with a strong adhesive. Starting at the outer edge, press the inner edge of the rick rack into the adhesive, turning as you go. Continue turning and pressing into a spiral until you reach the inside of the flower. Cut off excess. Adhere button, large brad or rhinestone in the center of your flower to hide the edge. Trim away any excess cardstock from the outside of the flower. To create my leaves, I simply cut some leaves free-hand from some patterned paper. I inked the edges and creased the center vein of the leaf with the tip of a pair of scissors…a stylus or bone folder would work better but when inspiration strikes, I usually just grab what I have on hand. 🙂

To create my stamped panel, I simply stamped the words Unique and Original from the Big Inspiration stamp set in Antique Linen Distress ink over the cardstock. Overtop I stamped a butterfly and sentiment from the Garden Friends set in Vintage Photo Distress Ink.

Quick Tip: Distress Inks aren’t just for distressing! I love using them to stamp just about anything. The one thing I don’t suggest using them on is highly detailed images such as Thomas Kinkade stamps.

Take care and happy stamping!
Julia

Sheer Fun

Summer friendship…splashing around in the pool…it’s sheer fun and one of those moments we always remember looking back. A decided to create a layout around a photo I had of my daughter, one of my boys and some friends splashing around in a pool. I decided to use this beautiful Crate Paper patterned paper as the base of my design and chose my colors from the patterned paper itself. If you read yesterday’s entry…you’ll have seen this paper before. 🙂 Here’ what I did with it.

Summer Friendship

jks-summer-friendship.jpg

Here’s my color combo from the ones I uploaded yesterday. The colors might be slightly different on your screen as I took the photo of the layout in different light.

cc12.jpg

This layout uses some of my rubber stamps to help me create the design. The Vintage Ledger Scrapblock™ is stamped onto a piece of Iced Teal cardstock while my Pindot Scrapblock is stamped on kraft cardstock. I love how easy it is to create my own coordinating patterned paper with these stamps. My sentiment stamps form the title of this layout. F is for Friendship comes from the For the Men stamp set, The Rummage Bin line, proving that this set is NOT just for the men. 😉

I created this layout for a product review I wrote for Craft Critique on Maya Road Office Sheers! I just LOVE these sheer embellishments and worked two of them into this design…the memories one with journaling on it and at the top, a Office Sheers journaling tab that is simply embellished with a flower and button. Want to read more about them? Check out the article here.

Have a fabulous day! Tomorrow is another Ways to Use it Challenge. I hope you’ll set aside some time to play along!
