Joy of Cardmaking…

I love a sketch challenge! And so, I always love the Joy of Cardmaking article in Papercrafts magazine each month. I was very excited to have two of my sketches accepted for this month’s (October already if you can believe it! LOL) issue. πŸ™‚ To order Paper Crafts magazine…check out this LINK.

Happy Holidays Ornaments

I had so much fun with this design. I just love the retro look of the ornament patterned paper and it uses some of my favorite products. πŸ™‚ In this month’s issue of Paper Crafts there is a second sketch as well for you to use. Lots of fun Fall and Halloween projects too! If you don’t subscribe already, I know you’ll love it.

Happy Labour Day!

You rise above the rest…Happy Birthday!

That’s the sentiment for this new darling stamp set by Lizzie Anne Designs. It is actually a sneak peek because High Hellos doesn’t go on sale until September 10th. I’m having a blast playing with it already and there is a lot of other really great sets just waiting to be released then as well. Want to take a peek? Check out the Lizzie Anne Designs website. πŸ™‚

You Rise Above the Rest

removed for publication*

I created this birthday card design for another of my nephew’s birthdays. Actually this card is rather late…I definitely do not rise above the rest! LOL I am so bad as getting things mailed out on time. πŸ™ One of my many faults!

This stamp set is made from cling rubber and is so easy to use. Because the long tail on the rocket is a little flexible, I placed it on the block with a little twist to it. I like the look of the curve. πŸ™‚ For my sentiment, I stamped it over a little star stamped in Soft Sky. Recognize it? It is the star fish stamp from Shore Thoughts! Works perfectly with this design! The little rocket was colored in with my So Saffron marker and then watercolored with Blue Bayou and Ruby Red. I also pulled out my Sakura Glitter Gel Pen and highlight the rocket trail with some sparkly silver glitter.

Quick Tip: Don’t forget that sanding edges is a great way to distress a design.

I just had to break into my Crate paper for this card. It has been sitting in my storage container for way too long! It is gorgeous! The paper is from the Zoom line and I think it works perfectly with this set or any little boy design! Actually, i can see this paper used in a more grown-up masculine design as well. Great flexibility! The thing I love most about Crate Paper is the fabulous texture! I think you can see it a bit in the picture but it is so much better in person. I love sanding it (which I did to the edges here) and I love the two sides of it. The alternate side of each sheet is always a distressed looking solid cardstock color. It always coordintates perfectly!

For my card base on this design, I used my Blue Bayou cardstock and a nice large 5.5″ square base. After sanding the edges of each layer, I stitched them down with my sewing machine. I added the Happy Birthday sentiment onto a circle of the reverse side of the patterned paper and then punched it out with a circle punch to tie in with the circle patterned paper. I decided to have a little fun with some circular stitching to emphasize it and carefully stitched around in a circle. Keeping with the star theme, I found this tiny SU chipboard star leftover from THIS project and as it worked perfectly with my star theme.

Having a little more fun with the patterned paper, I just couldn’t resist cutting out this darling phrase from the pattern. I like to go fast. Ever met a little boy who didn’t?!! I stitched it on the right side of my layout and then used a Star brad to attach it at the left side. Now look at the stars… a triangle of stars that tie each of the sentiments together. Triangles are great in design…not just for that magic kitchen workspace triangle. πŸ™‚
