One of my favorite things to design is little frames. 🙂 I just love the little Provocraft frames that you buy at Michael’s. So inexpensive and they always look darling. I thought this little frame would look darling at a cottage….one where guests are always welcome. Mi casa es su casa. 🙂 Hope I got the phrase right. I don’t speak Spanish but I’ve heard this said somewhere…who KNOWs where! LOL The word casa reminded me a little of the word castle and thus the sentiment to go with the darling little Gina K sandcastle stamp. 🙂 This design was for Gina K’s July Guest Designer spot so you may have seen it there as well.
Mi Casa Mini-Frame
I started off this design by covering the little frame with some of my new Daisy D’s paper…gotta love it! To adhere paper to wooden frames, I usually use Alene’s Thick and Tacky glue from Michael’s….just spread thinly. It works great and is SO inexpensive! For sanding the edges, I used my Basic Grey Precision File Set. These little files are fabulous and have paid for themselves many times in ease of use. If you missed my review on it, you may want to check it out. The inside cardboard square was then covered with the dotted patterned paper. I love how it reminds me of a beautiful blue sky and puffy clouds. Perfect for the beach!
Quick Tip: Sponge your edges of your frame and cardstock for a warm look. I sponge mine by holding the frame in the air with one hand and lightly sponging by with my right. I used to sponge straight onto a scrap paper on my desk but find this gives a softer look.
The little sandcastle image was stamped on cardstock and then watercolored with Close to Cocoa ink. To keep with the rustic look of the design, I created a sand dune out of torn and crumpled River Rock cardstock. I love this color of cardstock. This is the color I had been expecting Sahara Sand to be! To add a little fun to the design, I created a little red flad from a scrap of ribbon and added a tiny shell in front of the design.
To finish it all off…I added in my sentiment on a strip of River Rock. I set in a couple of eyelets in the ends to give it a more “permanent” look. I always love wrapping ribbons around things and a scrap of SU red ribbon and some beautiful striped May Arts ribbon worked perfectly.
