Heartfelt Shamrock

I’ve had this little shamrock heart idea on my mind for a while. I do believe I have seen it before, but I’ve never tried it out and I’m just not sure where I did see it. I wanted to make this card for my mom for St. Patrick’s Day. My mom’s name is Kathleen….how much more Irish can you get?! She is from Belfast Northern Ireland and came to Canada 45 years ago.

Today’s sketch challenge seemed to work perfectly for my idea. I hadn’t planned on making a card this morning, so many things to do today but….I can’t seem to resist a challenge, especially when I have an idea in my head that works with it. I designed this card with what I think of when I think of Ireland…Irish Linen, greens, Irish lace, even the hearts tie in….I’ve never met anyone from Ireland who didn’t love their country. I wish I remembered more of my trip to Ireland when I was small. I was only 5. The rolling hills and the beautiful Giant’s Causeway are imprinted most in my mind.

Warm Thanks

LOL More desk cleaning and another card. I was cleaning up last week before we left for Niagara and was about to throw out the little scrap of striped paper. I couldn’t do it! Before I knew it, the bones of this card ( layout and layers) were lightly glued together, waiting for me to come home and finish it. I had no idea what I was going to stamp on it but it was laid out.  Once home again…the warm colors made me think of Paisley so I stamped the thyme layer with Paisley in the Thyme ink. I love the tone on tone effect. I stamped the pumpkin layer tone on tone again with the Fontastic background stamp. All edges were sponged with close to cocoa. I finally decided to stamp right on the striped paper for the image. The leaf image from Autumn Leaf Prints is stamped in the pumpkin and I added a little embossed thanks for the sentiment and to balance it out. For final touches…i added a little row of faux stitching on the thyme layer and a clip and some black organdy ribbon from Michael’s. Prima flower pulls all the tones together and I love the big pumpkin colored brad from Karen Foster Designs in the middle. It is always nice to have a thank you card on hand. I’m quite pleased with the results of my scrap of paper inspiration.
