Color Challenge

I made this card for today’s color challenge. I think I rushed it a little….another bus delay today and the kids are home. BUT….at least 3 of them are going to school later. Love the colors, love the paper….I just don’t think the design clicked this morning. The Color Challenge today was to use So Saffron, Certainly Celery, Regal Rose and Chocolate Chip (optional). if you would like to play along….here is the link.

To make this card, I stamped the flowers and doodled swirls in Basic Brown ink and then watercolored them with my aquapainter. I LOVE my aquapainter…they are expensive but you always have water in the barrel ready to go and you don’t spill it. If you don’t have an aquapainter, no problem just use a regular good quality watercolor brush and water. After waiting for the ink to dry, the edges were sponged with chocolate chip ink and I applied two-way glue to highlight some of the petals and sprinkled on some glitter. The background paper is adhered to the card and then stitched with the sewing machine. I love freestyle stitching…no need to be precise and it imitates the style of the dots in the pic. The So Saffron layer is stamped with a retired SU background stamp…Dots and Daisies. I REALLY wish it had made the catalogue…it is one of my favorites. I painted the flowers with celery and highlighted the center with white gel pen. If you’ve never tried Stampin Up’s white gel pen….you really have to. I like to stretch my crafting budget and didn’t want to pay the price for it so I bought oh….about 4 other different white gel pen makes…they all clog. My SU one is fabulous and still going strong. i wish I had just bought it in the first place! In case you are wondering, I am not a Stampin Up demo. I just love their product and so this is with a very unbiased eye.

Sunshine Wish

I really needed a little sunshine! I can’t believe it is March here…we are really making up for a very mild November and December. The kids had school cancelled Thursday, Friday and again yesterday! For most of the day, we could barely see the road in front of our house. Spring seems SOOOOO far away.

This card is made with some more WE R Memory Keepers paper. It is called Sunshine Daisies and I can think of a better name for it…love the bright sunny look, especially in this weather. I am hoping though, that since March came in like a lion, we can expect it to go out like a lamb.
This is a very simple quick card. I created the title by cutting out a sentiment from Lilo thoughts We R Memory Keepers paper and pairing it up with my Dymo label maker. I love the fun look the black labels give and it is so flexible to create any sentiment you wish! The title is stitched down and the “sun” highlighted with stitching around the word.  No stamping on this card but the edges are inked with Brocade Blue Classic ink for some definition. A few of the edges are distressed after gluing by simply prying them up with my fingernail. If you do this….please be careful…I am NOT responsible for any papercuts! LOL
